Build for my Step-Dad

My step-dad wants to buy a computer from me. He's willing to pay between $400 and $900, but I'd like it to be around $600-$750. Apparently, he can spend a little money and get a full Microsoft Suite from his work. I don't know if that includes Windows or not. 500GB on the HDD should do it, between 4GB and 8GB on the memory. I'd like a higher-quality case so it can be reused for another build if he needs that. I'm considering micro-ATX, but I'm not sure. I'd like to take advantage of this situation and put my 9800GT in his system to take load off of the CPU and take the money he'd normally use on that to buy a DX11 graphics card to replace the 9800GT. Here, I'll sum everything up.

Stated $400-$900, but preferable $600-$750
Windows may be taken care of
320GB-640GB HDD
4GB-8GB RAM
Higher quality case (Silverstone, Lian Li maybe?)
Micro-ATX a good possibility
Include a somewhat high-end DX11 card in the list, so I can take that to replace my current 9800GT (which will go in this build)
Will be used for basic use/maybe light gaming like WoW so the 9800GT can take care of that.
Just the computer, no peripherals.

Also, just to make things clear, the whole GPU swap thing isn't behind my step-dad's back. He knows about it, and as long as he gets the 9800GT in the system so he can do some light gaming, he's fine.

A "fairly high end" GPU could take a sizable chink out of a $750 budget...how much are you shooting for on that component?

On the case (matx vs atx mb). Maybe where the tower will be, and his taste on style and size will help? Suggest cases to him based on that? Or let him choose cases he likes, and if 1 is a good one then....or, if his picks aren't good then use his list to get an idea for a good one he'll like?

I was thinking something like HD5850, HD6850, GTX450 or 460... something like that. Maybe I can pick one up used : /

Do you have any case suggestions to show him?

I don't mind helping you look around. ATX you think? or smaller? Simple elegance? Black? What color(s) is the rest of the system?

Well we won't be putting anything other than the 9800GT in there, so if you can save a significant amount of money by going micro-ATX, that's great. I don't want too much flashiness, probably just black or silver or white.

Mostly good, but the case is kinda plastic-y, I'd rather get a Corsair Builder series PSU and probably a WD 500GB HDD.

Maybe we can work on lowering this price a bit? I tried to incorporate most of the ideas that daisymtc brought up in the list and I think it looks pretty good. Maybe we can shave another 20$ off of it?

Zotac are noisy compare to other brand (from reviews)
GTX 460 1GB >> 786 MB

WD blue is slower than Seagate 7200.12

You will need core i5 2500K for overclocking.

I'm aware that the 1GB is better, but I don't want to mess up the budget by getting a 1GB. What about getting a GTS 450 or maybe one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...4127500&cm_re=5850_1gb-_-14-127-500-_-Product ?

Okay, so I'll get the Seagate.

I don't plan on any major overclocking except for maybe a few tweaks that I don't need the unlocked multiplier for... you can still overclock w/o the K, it's just more complicated.

You're very right. The Antec is on Seasonic's S12II Bronze platform, while the Corsair is a Channel Well DSA unit. I'd take an S12II over a DSA any day of the week.

Ah, okay. My bad.

So can someone put together an updated list? I'm stuck on this P.O.S. computer that I don't even want to browse NewEgg with.

Awwww yeah

Hopefully I can jump on this tomorrow.

DUDE THE BIOSTAR is already gone!! Christ Jesus... :(

Reason for the blue is that they won't be needing that extra cache... not really worth even an extra 5$ if it's not going to be touched, not that the black isn't a bad buy (I have 2TB in WD Caviar Black)
