VGA and Win7 Resolution Issue

So I have a 9800 GTX that runs a DVI to HDMI cable into a 20' LG HDTV. The native resolution of the TV is 1360x768. With this setup I have no issues with running the proper resolution.

Now what I'm trying to do is run a VGA cable from the card to my TV, and this has introduced nothing but problems. The picture quality is complete crap now, and my native resolution does not display correctly. It's a simple resolution that VGA should have no problem with, I don't understand what the issue is.

From a bit of research it seems that this configuration works fine on XP but not on Windows 7 and that it has to do with the EDID. So it looks like it'll require more cleaning up after Microsoft (go figure).

Anyway, any input is appreciated.

Why are you trying to go from DVI/HDMI to VGA? You're going to get a much better picture using HDMI.

But as for the actual problem, I have no idea why it differs between versions of Windows. I suppose it could have something to do with the different versions of drivers being used. And while this wouldn't explain the windows issue, I know some TVs don't support native resolutions over VGA. My LCD TV only supports 3:2 resolutions (like 1280x1024) but it's native res is 1440x900 (which I can only do 1280x720 through HDMI).
