what is the success rate of unlocking a 6950?i was considering the 6950 over the gtx570 only if i could unlock it.ive been reading reviews that said that when they unlocked it it would start to artifact and be unstable even when they under clocked it below the 6950 speeds.is the success rate higher than the failure rate?

For everyone I checked out on newegg, half of everyone that left a review said it was easy. I ordered one, and I'll be able to say for sure just how easy it is when it gets here

Well this was the success rate as of the 12th Jan,Not sure how much these of changed but from what ive been reading theres a very high success rate.

I also read somewhere that on the 1GB version of the 6950 AMD had removed the dual bios switch :D
I think theyre going to keep that for only the 2gb versions,You know to make those who want to make it a 6970 pay out more :D

Ive not got my XFX 6950 2GB yet, will post results though when i do.

I wouldn't think you could unlock a 6950 1gb to anything, because there's no 6970 1gb in existence to flash with. Until they make a 6970 1gb you'd be asking for trouble attempting it. Seems like a clever but obvious tactic to encourage sales on their upper mid end, assuming people won't just buy cards that don't need any unlocking to begin with(people who want to keep it simple).

that would be wonderful if yall could give me a heads up on the unlocking. if yall can provide which bios you used and the whole 9 yards that would be great.by the way which brand did yall buy?

If you have to ask yourself if you want an ATI card that needs a BIOS flash (which can be hard and void warranty) and could fail or a solid Nvidia card...I think there is only really one answer.

I think you would actually be happy with either one. Both cards will give you a great gaming experience :D

I stick to a rule I made myself while building several computers for friends...AMD processor and chipset = ATI card. Intel processor and chipset = Nvidia card. It has always worked smooth for me.

Do i detect some Nvidia fanboyism here :D :good:

Based on those numbers my sapphire will have a 96% change of success. 100% if you don't count there might be errors. and considering 140 cards were tested, I like those odds.

:P Nooo...Both cards are great and will perform very well in games.

I have done builds with both platforms...I am actually considering an AMD/ATI platform for my next build to save a little money (moving from Germany to the US is expensive :o)

I have had nothing but great experiences with Nvidia ;)

I've always been a Nvidea guy, until I bought a ati HD 5850. Good card, good performance but bad drivers.

That why my new build is going to have a Nvidea GPU.

I have a saphire HD5850. You might wabt to give the saphire TRIXXX utility a try.
