I need Help buying a CPU

One Above All

What is better (performance) and cheaper for my money. I am NOT going to overclock.

Intel Core i7-950

Intel Core i5-2500

AMD Phenom II X4 970

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T

Also when it comes to Threads in CPU do they make much of a difference ?

Cause the i7 950 has 4 cores but 8 threads were as the i5 2500 has 4 cores and only 4 threads

2500 hands down. The 2500 is as strong as the 950 clock for clock even though it lacks hyper threading (due to architectural differences). Plus anyway, turbo mode on a 2500 is 3.7ghz so it's really going to be whipping the 950 all over the place.

The 2500 is also cheap on the three major components. CPU itself is cheaper, ram is cheaper (dual channel kit VS triple channel), and the P67 motherboards are cheaper than X58's.

Even though the I7 950 has triple channel ram, the internal memory controller of the 2500 is far superior and you actually get higher memory bandwidth from dual channel on sandy bridge than triple channel with bloomfield.

Forget AMD.

What are you using your PC for?

I am going to be using my PC for pretty much everything, Gaming and a home computer for myself lol

Why forget AMD ? There allot cheaper and from what I heard they have the same reliability as Intel

Reliability is one thing, speed is another ;)

The 2500 is ~$190 and an 1100t is $230. How are they a lot cheaper?

I would say you would have to go with the 2500 HANDS DOWN because that puppy is going to really just ramp things up for you and totally be WAY better than the iCore 7.

Hope that helps...

Not saying that the 1100t is cheaper than them lol Just saying with AMD you get cheaper for the same pretty much.

But it seems everyone is saying to get the i5 2500 :) So ill get that ..... and its cheaper

But explain how is i5 > i7 lol

Newer I5 VS older I7. The newer I5's are about the same strength as the older I7's at the same clocks, but they overclock higher much easier/cooler so that makes the I5 better.

The new I7 2600k quad core is about the same strength as the $1000 I7 980x hex core

It's all about newer architecture.
