Saving to a partition

Hello everyone, glad to be a part of the community. I have a couple questions about saving files to a partition. My laptop came with 2 hard drives, or so it says.

How can I tell if I have 2 physical HDs or just 1 thats been partitioned?

If I save something to a partition separate from the one my OS is on could a virus, malware, or even spyware access my main HD or affect the OS?

^Same question but applied to a removable storage device.

Is a partition the same as a virtual HD? What benefits does one have over the other (if that requires too much detail, don't worry about it)?

Welcome! I'm sure you'll have fun in this forum, as there are some characters that thrive in this site.

Anways, to acquire the knowledge of knowing whether or not you have 2 hard drives. There are a few ways to find this information out.

First, I must ask what OS do you have?

Usually, you would have 1 hard drive partitioned into 2 separate drives. C: for your OS and other files and D: for your recovery drive. Most companies don't send you any disks. So, if your laptop gets corrupt somehow you can recover back to factory default. And the d: drive won't have enough space to put anything else on it anyway.

Go to Device Manager expand "Disk Drives" how many show up? Only a few 15" have 2 HDD's 17" most don't but it is more likely. Anything smaller than 15" I am not aware of any with more than 1 unless ODD bay is modified.
