List of to do things when a system has problems

I had a problem with my system which at first made me panick but after recieving sound info on this forum, I managed to fix the issue. However I would like members help compile a list of things to do when a system encounters problems. So far I have learned the following, please add to it:

  1. Run antivirus, malware and syware software to check for problems
  2. Make sure windows is updated
  3. Run chkdisk
  4. Run hdd diagnostic utility
  5. Check memory for errors via some program that I cannot remember the name of

Please add other items to the list. Im sure it will help many people. Thank you.

That program would be memtest86+

Unfortunately, and despite what thousands of outsourced help-line assistants are told, there is no magic list of diagnostic tables that will tell you how to solve every computer problem.

If there were, there would be a lot fewer of these forums and they would be a lot more boring.

Thanks for the correction. Good point about on the list. However would a list such as this not solve many problems? Ofcourse there would be problems that will need specialist advice.
Another one to add is cc cleaner. Although there is a few negative things I have heard about registry cleaning software.

Problem is the things to do/response/diagnosis needs to be based on symptoms/issues. There is no one size fits all.

I like your idea but it needs to be more of a "tree" structure or matrix not a linear list. If this then that kind of thing? And that my friend is likely the problem.

Yeah, kinda what I was thinking at first. IMO the only thing would be something on a list that would have a risk factor and then ppl using the list without knowledgable guidance thus taking unnecessary risks. Or even just doing something needlessly. Like blaming your friend ;)

I agree with you 100% And I thought about. If I could of said there was any risk I would of jumped. But to be fair I guess a worst case scenario is just a waste of time. Unless I want to say scanning HDD might stress and cause failure. But we both know if that happened it would of happened soon anyway.

I want OP to continue with his idea. I know it can be done. I lack the time or motivation.
