So are you saying that you want to use an upgrade version of Win7 for a clean install? If so, some people have installed Win7 from an upgrade disk, but it goes against Microsoft's policy. If you already have a computer with Win7, though, then you can just use the same hard drive, or clone it using my guide. Keep in mind that this is not possible with an OEM version. ive been looking at those, but im confused what they are or what the difference is between that, and the full version? I currently have no operating system on my new rig and just need to know what i can do to get win 7 on. i tried one of my friends upgrade discs and it didnt work. (note* there is no operating system, its is completely blank)

I should be very careful here as I might know less than I think based on others posts. But based on what I think I know. If there is no OS what is the disk going to upgrade? So you need a full installation disk.

What are your options? OK Retail gives you both 32bit and 64bit and not tied to your MoBo. So if you change your system the OS can go with you. OEM? You must pick at point of sale if 32bit or 64bit. You can only ever install to "one" system. So no migration.

In general retail costs $100 more than OEM. $199 vs $100. Retail offers tech support from M$ OEM is you, you are your own support.

I am not in anyway saying one is better than the other. It is different for each user and their needs.

Good Luck!

That is what I would do. Yes full version OEM is $99 at NewEgg I believe. The only advantage I really see retail over OEM is system migration. I don't care about the rest.
