Is DDR2 1066MHz the same as DDR3 1066MHz ?

I am looking to build a system, that i would not have to upgrade for a while. But i bought a DDR2 Mobo and not a DDR3. But if i had a DDR3 i would only use the lowest sped RAM i could anyway. So, would they be the same speed?

(I am buying the Kingston Hyper X)
 
DDR2 and DDR3 RAM sticks are physically different, and one will not work in a motherboard designed to use the other.

All else being equal, the DDR3 would outperform DDR2 at the same clock speed.
 
Its really up to you. Since you already have DDR2 board, you would have to send it back/swap it out for a DDR3 board. But with the price of DDR3 now, you can get DDR3 1600 for close to the same price as 1066.
 
The main difference is the power consumption really, DDR3 is much more efficient than DDR2 is power wise. As the others said, performance will be slightly better, however not noticeably so for general use.

I go the one in the town center, and there is 3. theres one in newton and one in pocket nook(?). But yeah i'm studying IT there, surprisingly haha. And i only live in wigan, i wasn't born there ;) but i think you should know i just had a pie for my tea! :cool:

St Helens college then lol. There are 3 in St Helens itself, St Helens, Carmel and Cowley, though Cowley is more of a sixth form than a stand alone college like the other 2. I'm at Carmel at the moment.

And I suppose if you weren't born there it isn't so bad, but it is no surprise that you have just eaten a pie seeing as how you live there now :D
 
Ohhh, well i did use to go to a 6th form college, but i didn't like it much. And... it was a Fray Bentos, and it was great! But oh well, living in wigan is better than St Helens :P St Helens gets all the chavs from liverpool haha
 
pfft, don't talk crap. When you look at some of the people as you go through Wigan...my god, it is just like a town full of window lickers :P
