Only reading 7.99 GB RAM

Last night I installed a bunch of parts I got for my computer, PSU, GPU, SSD and 16gb of ddr3 Ram. I did a clean install on my ssd, reloaded the drivers needed for all my hardware. Clicked on my computer's properties and it is saying that I have 16gb installed but only 7.9 available

I have windows 7 64bit Home Professional
My mobo supports up to16gb of Ram

Any suggestions on where to start?

In my opinion I would just return 8 gigabytes of RAM out of the 16 gigabytes to NewEgg. 8192 megabytes of physical memory should be way more than sufficient for your needs. I do not think your performance is in anyway going to be hindered with your system and what is currently working.

I've had this problem before among others, I don't think anyone has ever found out a solution, most people just reformat and it sorts the issue out :)

i also had this problem, 2 times on seperate machines. 1st solution for me was to take each ram stick out and add 1 at a time until it says less then what you should. that last stick that you put in may be bad. check each one individualy, than add one in after the previous, maybe a ram dimm on your board is bad. 2nd solution was to reinstall windows

also try and make sure that memory hole remapping is enabled in your bios

  1. Shut down computer.
  2. Switch off PSU switch.
  3. Hold down ON button for 10 seconds.
  4. Remove all RAM.
  5. Clear the CMOS (remove battery for a minute or two)
  6. Replace battery
  7. Replace RAM
  8. Start computer - reset BIOS settings as required.
  9. Restart.

+1. ^ This is a nice procedure:good:. You should probably try to:
1. Insert each stick of RAM individually. One of them might be bad.
2. Do what bigfellla said up here ^
3. Reinstall Windows

Cheers! :)

I agree with this.

I read something online on Tom's Hardware, I think. It said that the max RAM supported on the motherboard includes everything: RAM, RAM on graphics and whatever else has RAM. So, if your motherboard already has some RAM from other hardware then it will show less when you look at the computer specs.

I'm not sure about all this; I just read it online. Maybe an expert can approve/disapprove of this.

This refers to addressable memory and relates mainly to 32bit OS. The motherboard limitations are RAM on system momory only.

I followed these instructions and it seems to be working just fine now. I can post a screenshot of where it was saying that only 7.99 was usable a little later. I guess my motherboard is really picky on how you insert the RAM sticks. Thanks for the replies

All you had to do is remove the Virtual pagefile . You're M/B and windows system(Professional) both Support 16 GB of ram, however windows take into account any virtual memory usage as well at the VRAM usage.

In my case if I had 8192 pagefile it reduces the physical memory usage to 7.99 GB. Removing this will bring it up too 15GB of usage because 1GB is reserved for my GTX 470. I'm on windows Professional.

Windows Ultimate doesn't matter all at, just as long as you get a M/B that supports beyond 16GB.

Also note that in some cases you may have to change the VDIMM settings to at least 1.6+ on some board for registration of memory.
