the heatsink i have is a Xigmatek Dark Knight that i bought from ScottALot (thanks buddy!!), the thing is huge, had to cut a big hole in my $15 case. the cpu im overclocking is a AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rana 3.1GHz, i was one of the lucky ones to have it unlock to a quad core with 3. cache and have it stable! thermal compound came today!

she is idles at 37c:

under 100% load its at 49c-56c

this site got the same cpu up to 3.9ghz so i hope i can come close.

next update will be at 6:00pm thats in one hour, wish me luck

37*c is pretty hot for a decent cooler and stock clocks. Ideally you want into the 20's, but should at least be in the low 30's. I too have an Xigmatek cooler and I'm idling about 28-30*c. This is already overclocked too mind you. How much thermal paste did you apply? If you use too much (And believe me, too much is not a lot.) then your temps will actually be much higher as the paste will insulate the CPU.

like a pea size, idk the site said that the compound needs to break in, but my case has bad air flow

and i cant seem to find my fsb setting in the bios

The fsb may be labeled as base clock or something similar.

I'd say your temps are fine. It's common for an unlocked chip to run hotter than normal ones do, and if you have bad airflow it doesn't help things. High ambient temps won't help either, and you're right, the TIM does need to settle in. Try taking the side panel off to see what it does, though...it could just be an airflow issue.

Also, congrats on the successful unlock! Getting an L3 cache is fairly rare nowadays.

thanks man, i dont really wana take my side panel off again it was a pain in butt to put back on(cheap case)

Just make sure you keep an eye on them is all. If they're a bit high on stock volts and clocks, then they're sure to climb quick.

Nice unlock! :good: It was hard for me to find the FSB on my Asus P5PL2 when I went to overclock. Turned out that it was in the "Jumperfree Configuration," like some people still use jumpers to overclock or something. :D
