Videos, YouTube etc Keeps Stopping

I have constant trouble watching Videos like YouTube, News flashes, Skype etc., they keep stopping to fill the buffer.
I am checking the speed using speedtest.net and get around
50 ms Ping
2.5 mb Download
0.3 mb Upload
It does go slower on a evening around 8 to 10pm
Should this be fast enough?


I have a new HP laptop with a Turion dual core processor going to new Netgear DGN 2000 Wireless router to the DSL. I also run PC Tools regcleaner and tune up.
Has anyone got any ideas, is it my ISP at problem?
The Netegear has the latest software.

Youtube sucks now. I have a 5mb download (42mbps) and it still freezes on me.

.3mb download is slow though. Unless you mixed them up and meant .3 upload.

I'm on an 8mbps down connection, and I'm on youtube right now, streaming 1080p without a hitch. Youtube isn't the problem, you may have an issue with your connection.

@roker

What video quality have you chosen to stream? I.e 240p, 480p, 720p, or 1080p?
This can make a difference, as your reported speed may not be enough to handle the higher quality video.
What speeds are you paying for?

I am paying for 3 mb. how do I check the quality/resolution?
If I had an issue with the connection, i would think it would show on the speed test.
 
it would seem that YouTube runs on Adobe flash player and I may need the latest version according to YouTube help, but 10.2 is for HD and clearly I do not have the speed for HD. It will cost to download this (not a lot) but do I need it?
Also I notice the Adobe Interenet Acceclerator, will this help my speed, can someome please clarify this confussion.

You shouldn't be charged for using Adobe Flash player.

Still, when it comes to Youtube buffer speed, I've noticed a steep decline in the past few years. I think that Youtube just can't handle the server load anymore. That would be why it's worse at night, because more people are online.

To be honest, I haven't noticed any decline. On average, I'm streamed at least 2 to 3 minutes ahead of the buffer line, with 1080p. On longer videos, such as 6 to 20 minute 1080p vids, I will be as much as 5 to 7 minutes streamed ahead of the buffer line, without me pausing, of course. 480p is just ridiculous; I can stream a 15 minute video in 5 minutes. 8mbps down, cable, that's it, wireless, as well. Now my friend's connection, on the other hand, he's at 2mbps down with DSL; needless to say, I buffer like a mug at his house. That's part of the reason why I believe that: 1.) The OP doesn't have a sufficient enough connection to run Youtube video's anymore (with my cable provider, I'm on the lowest plan, actually. 8mbps down. Their highest, is up in the range of 50mbps down, normal being 12mbps down) and, 2.) the other poster, ChrisUlrich, probably has an issue with his connection. I say this because if he has a 42mbps down connection, and he can't buffer Youtube videos, but I can, something's not right there.

Hmm, maybe it has to do with the quality of Youtube's servers at different areas of the world? Maybe some of their servers are better than others. I have a roadrunner cable connection @ 4.xmbps on a relatively bad WiFi connection. Granted, I got a 115ms ping. Is that bad? Does it have to do with the crappy WiFi I'm getting on the CR-48 when I just ran Speedtest?

Yeah, I suppose the servers could possibly be an issue in different areas.

My ping on speed test from the server 50 miles away is 70ms, which is decent. Ping varies, depending on where the server is, and isn't necessarily a deciding factor in bandwidth.
