PC Good Enough for Wow

WoW doesnt take very much to run smoothly, it will mostly depend on your internet (or at least as far as i've experienced this has been the case)

So IMO yes this computer should run it well with decent internetz :)

$600 and you're getting a GT430? Fail...

I doubt he has any access to higher end than that if he's shopping at Wal-Mart for PC's. it probably costs so much because of the "Gamer" looking case. If it looks good its priced Bad right? haha

But like i said, you dont need much to run WoW so this still fits his needs.

True...that's a better machine than most everything else at Wal Mart, so I suppose it can't be complained about too much.

The recommended system requirements for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm are:

-A dual-core processor, such as the Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2. (Check!)
-2GB of RAM. (Check!)
-A 256 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600 or ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 or better video card. (Check!)*

*Based on the Graphics Card Hierarchy available on Tom's Hardware here. The GT 430 appears 2 tiers higher than the 8600 GTS.

Video RAM - 256 MB (Check!)
Hardware T&L -Yes (Check!)
Pixel Shader Version - 3.0 (Check!)
Vertex Shader Version - 3.0 (Check!)

As for the value, it's actually a pretty decent deal. I went on newegg.com and put together the exact same machine (chassis and all), and I was only able to shave the price down to $541 (including $25 for shipping to Nebraska).

I'd say go for it if you can afford it. You should be really satisfied with how WoW will play on medium settings, and it leaves you room to upgrade your video card down the road.

Good luck and regards,

-Chris

never buy builded pc's .. you can buy betters parts in that money and build it yourself

I agree entirely, if you have the means to acquire the parts and the wherewithal to assemble them properly.

Looking through the posters previous posts, he is a little younger, and although building a PC is a fun and educational experience, the amount of gain is negligible.

Also, if you look into iBUYPOWER a bit you'll find that they don't use the un-labeled, un-supported, proprietary hardware junk that the vast majority of OEMs do. They use regular off the shelf parts like you and me.

Maybe when he's a bit older and has a bit more cash he can dig in and change the guts a little, or build a new rig. For now, I think this would suit the purpose :).

Exactly what i was thinking, heck i have bought a computer from iBUYPOWER before, but this was back before they made pre-built computers for wal-mart.

Sounds good man, Id advise upgrading the power supply on it if your going with that though. Maybe a 550w that way you have some wiggle room for additional upgrades.

Just as a note in reply, don't forget to check the power recommendation of the card manufacturer when you do buy a video card. If I have learned anything in my years building, fixing, and maintaining PCs, it's that you should never skimp on a power supply. Buy a good brand with ample wattage.

Good luck :)
