Upgrading my PC

My PC is kind of outdated by a few years, it's not horrible but it's not good enough to keep up with modern gaming. So I've decided to attempt to upgrade my computer. First off I've got an old ATI Raedon HD 2400 pro for a graphics card, a Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20 GHZ and only 288 GB HD.

Any suggestions or any more information needed to know what I can upgrade with/my computer is compatible with?

I'm trying to get a RIG that can run ARMA II and battlefield 3 when they come out. Doesn't have to be on high graphics, just capable of playing them with decent graphics on like normal.
 
Would you be able to give us some more information?

Is it a custom-built machine, and if so, what motherboard and power supply are in it?

If it's an off the shelf OEM unit (HP, Dell, eMachines, etc...), what is the model number?

What is your budget like for upgrades?

From that information, I will be able to give you recommendations for stable hardware upgrades.

Okay, that's a start. The Antec 300 is a really nice case to work with, I've built several machines using them and they are great.

I take it you are using this thing mostly for gaming?
 
I would recommend doing an AMD/ATI platform. You can really get some excellent performance on a budget that way at the moment.

I have some errands to run, and and awards ceremony to attend tonight, but I'll put together a build for you when I get back.

Okay, so here's what I've come up with for you:

At the rate I'm saving I should have the money by June So it'l probably be cheaper correct? So at that time should I get a better video card?
 
Components prices are bound to shift a bit in the next few months, and there will likely be some nice new deals available. Shop around when you have about $600 to spend and you'll find some deals you can't pass up.

The HD 5770 is a great card, it's in Tier-6 of the Tom's Hardware Hierarchy. It will definitely stomp all games that are out and will conceivably come out in the next couple years. If you did want an upgrade from that I would go with a 6870 or 6970.
 
if you get a good drive it will last. Western Digital blacks and Samsung F4's are the longest lasting drives on the market.
