Need advice on another pc build...

OK ppl some of you love this stuff.... I have the following;

I've been using this cpu daily. I only use word, internet surf and play 1-2 video games.

Antec 900
Asus Mobo
E8500 CPU
Asus 4870 GPU
OCZ 700 PSU
4 GB 1066 DDR2
WD 640 HD
Vista 64 O.S.
Too Lazy to open up on the cooler, can't remember an age thing.

I built this one last year and I've never used it once still sitting here waiting for me to break her in.

Too Lazy to open up the cooler on this one also.

Here's the deal, I would like to have two cpu side by side in my home office. One for me and one for my wife. We both just use word, internet surf and play 1-2 games. She's been doing the facebook/and whatever else that crap is called. I now need to keep two cpu and build another for my son n law. All he does is game, he's 24 and wants to be able to play all the newest games. Should I give him one of these above (if they will work with current gaming), build him a new one or build a basic cpu for my wife and give him my E8500 system and keep my I7 system for myself..... So I guess that's what I'm dealing with. As for a budget, I don't have one. But I do have plenty of monitors new in the boxes, a couple of keyboards and a few mouses left. All I need is the O.S. and CPU.....

I'd give him the second machine and let him upgrade the video card to something current (it's not bad, still very powerful, just a little outdated)

There is no need to upgrade a 4870 x 2, it will plough through every game at max settings on high resolution. You are talking outperforming a 5870, and you wouldn't tell someone to upgrade a 5870 would you.

If all you use is the net and a few games, the first system will do all of that like a knife through butter. For games, your son-in-law would be better off with the second system - every part of it will destroy any game out now and any to be released in the near future, where as if you were to use it, you would be wasting most of that power. Imaging it like having a sports car, when all you use it for is driving around your town centre at 30mph?
 
Then you could just build a $600 system that could do everything you and your wife do. It would be alot cheaper that way also.

The way I understand it he needs 3 computers - one for himself, one for his wife, one for his son-in-law. His son-in-law is a heavy gamer, he is a light gamer, his wife doesn't game at all. He is better off, therefore, keeping the first system, giving the second to his son-in-law, and building a ~$400 one for his wife instead

Was speaking mainly for the DX11 titles around the corner :D
 
That's what I thought.... thanks for the suggestions. So with that said, I'll take your advice and build a new comp. for my wife. So let's do a modest build for internet and light gaming. I've never did an AMD build should I go this route or go intel and if I go intel do a 775, 1156 or 1366 build? Thanks again guys for all your suggestions. Oh buy the way I do live near a Microcenter so I can get a i7950 for 200.00. I'm actually thinking of giving my E8500 to my son n law keep the i7 for me and building my wife a new system =-]... I know I don't need it, but I bought everything shouldn't I have the better system... hehehehehhe.....:D

Yea, all those DX11 titles, because like DX10, there are just loads of them :rolleyes:. The difference between DX 9, 10 and 11 isn't that great, not even close to enough to warrant an upgrade. If you were buying a new card because you needed a new card, fair enough, take it into consideration, but to upgrade from what is still one of the best cards on the market? Certainly not worth it in the slightest
