do I need a KVM switch or something else?

Now that I have the below computer, my first PC-build, up and running, I'm not always using my HP Pavilion. But there are things on the hard drive that I occasionally need, so I have to take the VGA cable off my new PC and insert it into the back of the HP, and then also the cable for my wireless keyboard and mouse. Is a KVM switch what I need to have both computers on at the same time and to be able to go back and forth between them? I've heard that the USB cables for wireless keyboard and mice don't work with KVM switches. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Are they just files or certain programs you need off your HP? If they're just files, I'd say get a flash drive and back them up to that.

Yeah, they are pretty much just files. But, I just spend over $60 to get Windows XP Pro on the HP and I bought a new power supply for it too back in December since the fan on the old one died. Since the PSU is enormous (in dimension) compared to my old one, I keep saying I'm going to get a new or used mid-tower case to fit the mATX mobo, etc. The thing is that I'm trying to convince myself that I'm going to use it as a media center PC in the future once I get a good HDTV, but since I bought it way back in 2005, HP tells me that it won't recognize anything higher than 500GB of disk space. So...I really don't know if I'll get any good use out of it OR if I would even make $50 off it if I sold it on Craigslist or something. I don't know what I should do

I hate to say it, but it's really not worth it. Those old HP's are pretty terrible.
