hey all iv been searching around on ebay and i came across some cd's which say they are genuine xp disks from de commsioned computers

they are only £20 so i was wondering if they are legit?

if i can get a heads up i will post a link but i chose not to now as i know some forums dont like links to ebay

can't tell without seeing it.
On the other hand when shopping online i would
be looking for new and unopened.

yeah it says that, if you type in ebay windows xp cd theres a few sellers offering them for 20 quid, but there just in cd wallted (unopened) that you get when you buy a new pc

(this is uk though i just realised you were US)

Can you post a link. Don't forget that you pay for the license (e.g. the key), so do these CD's come with an unused key? Or are they just trying to flog you the software?

If its a oem you would be better off passing it up. Its going to install the drivers for that model i think. i would not expect it to work unless its a match for a oem. was it a build? look at a retail.

It won't install the drivers, it just makes the drivers available if the hardware exists.
It will work, I know this because I've used a Dell OEM disc before and it installed just fine on a Pavilion lol :D

hmm, well im getting a new comp soon so will this work as an os until i can afford windows 7 (more importantly is it legal)

If your getting a new computer and oem i would expect it to come with Windows 7 and at least a home edition. XP is just about done but maybe not yet.

He's building his own.
And Windows XP will be unsupported by M$ in 2012, which, guess what?! That's...:P
