i have an i7 950 not overclocked, with a corsair H50 cooler. my ambiant temp in my room is about 86-87F (~30C) and my cpu runs around 45-50C. using coretemp right now my core temps are reading :

Core #0: 48-49C
Core #1: 45-46C
Core #2: 47-48C
Core #3: 44-45C

do these temps sound normal to you, being that my room temp is kind of high?

Wow, why is your room temp so high? Do you have any case fans running? Where is your tower located at?

Those temps seem about right running at those ambient temps. What really matters is what your temps are when you're running a program like CoreDamage. If they get above 75C consistently, you'll need to add some more fans or get a better heatsink. ;)

my room is just that hottest room in the house. just how it is. mostly bc i have a bearded dragon and chameleon.

i have a coolermaster 690 2 case with the max amount of fans. i have push pull on my H50. and my case's ambient temp is around 30C.

i have ran prime95 for around 2-3 hours and temps stayed at or below 70C. the only thing i do is play starcraft2 and it only gets up to 55ish C.

is there a better cooler for my situation?

A better cooler and perhaps moving the computer to another room or doing something about the ambient temperatures would help a great deal. Watercooling would help a great deal but that's expensive. How much would you be willing to drop on a new air cooler? You can get some quite good ones for a minimal amount of money.

i dont really wanna spend more than 100$ if i have to get a new cooler.

today is alot cooler outside so i have my windows open. my ambient temp is 24C while my core temp is

40C
35C
39C
36C

and under full load 55-56 C

the temps i said before are the normal temps. i just wanted to give you some temps that were closer to what most people have their ambient temps at.

but if anyone has used both the H50 and a different cooler and had better results with the other share it with me please.

Those new temperatures are not bad, not terribly good either. The H50... most decent air coolers will beat it (Noctua D14/Thermalright Silver Arrow) and a custom water loop certainly will beat it.

Did you use any thermal paste with the H50? It's necessary. Also, Corsair recommends the fan to be an intake one from the rear of the case, but often that makes temperatures worse.

How have you got your H50 setup is basically what I'm asking.

Those temps definitely won't cause you any harm, ever. WAY better than mine. You should still check the things that Linkin talked about (thermal paste, etc.), but there's no need to buy a new cooler.

i had it set up as an intake in the back of my case but i figured it probably just messed with the proper air flow of the case so i changed it so that now its an outtake on the back of the case. my case has such good airflow the temps didnt change.

also i cleaned off the thermal paste that came with the H50 and put on some Antec Formula 5 silver thermal compound. i wanted arctic silver but my dad bought the wrong one so i just used this one. it didnt seem to help much compared to the paste that came with the H50. maybe a degree or two.

Gotta use the isopropyl alcohol wipes otherwise it'll just make it worse or not help at all. See if you can get any Arcti Clean if you can't get any rubbing alcohol.

yeah i have some more thermal paste. but i wasnt planning on redoing it. do you think if i got some Arctic silver that i would notice any change over the Antec silver im using?
