Thermal Paste

How do you apply it.....A large dab in the middle, spread it around thinly, or a bunch of little dabs all over....

Thanks

A small dab, about the size of a grain of rice, in the center.

Too much of the stuff will actually create heating issues.

What Dngrsone said is true. Do as he instructed with application when you apply it to the processor. A little thermal paste goes a long way.

Both right. It's like glue; Less is more, except none is not enough :D

Don't spread it either, and don't touch the bottom of the cooler after you put the paste on the CPU, the natural oils from your fingers won't help cooling capacity one bit.

Also, don't lift up the cooler once it's made contact with the paste, this will create and trap air bubbles when you clamp the cooler down. Air insulates heat, so it will decrease cooling performance.

Licking it isn't a good idea, either.

exactly i made the mistake of putting too much and now they are completely glued together. i cannot remove it at all.

It's easy enough. All you need to do is have the computer on sitting in the BIOS for a while, enough for the CPU to heat up, then shut off the machine, unclip the cooler and twist the cpu cooler left and right while lifting, and it should come straight off.

i pulled my heat sink with the cpu at the same time. freaked me out. but i used artic silver with a new heat sink and fan and my temp came down 5c . 28 vs 23 on idle now.
