1000$ budget for a new Gaming Pc

Alright, so here's what's up. I am planning on building a computer exclusively for gaming. That being said, I would like to hear any input on this build, like for example, are all of the parts compatible? Would my graphics card be able to max out new games, etc etc. If you can recommend any better parts for near the same price, I will consider them. I already have a Rosewill Challenger case.

P.S. Do I need more power, cooling, and ram? Thanks!

I'd avoid the Corsair CX units. They aren't as good as Corsair's other series of units, same goes for the GS series.

I'd recommend a XFX 650W or 550W. Seasonic internals vs CWT internals.

The RAM is fine though we are getting into the realm where 4GB may not be enough if you multi task and never close anything, so I'd go for 2x4GB sticks. One because DDR4 isn't due out for another couple of years and all the earthquakes and tsunami's will raise prices on almost everything in the computer world.

Swap out the Caviar Black 500GB for a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB, it's a faster drive when it comes to random reads and writes (very important as an OS drive, which is why people buy SSD's) - It's also $64.99 and double the capacity of the Caviar.

If you want a GTX 460, don't get an SE, it stands for "Slow Edition" ;) you want a 1GB variant.

Everything else looks okay, but when you are buying a screen, look for the resolution not screen size. That 21.5" might be 1336x768 which is like a netbook resolution.

I'd also be looking at an aftermarket cooler. Xigmatek Red Scorpion is cheap and gets the job done, it's also very quiet with the stock fan.

Thank you very much, this is just the information I needed! Concerning the monitor, under details it says "Recommended resolution 1920 x 1080" So shouldn't it be a pretty good monitor? Also, is an aftermarket cooler necessary for what I'm doing?

Is this the monitor you have?
LG E2260V Glossy Black 22" Full HD 1920 x 1080p 5ms LED Backlight LCD Monitor Slim Design 250cd/m2 DC 5,000,000:1

Should I get that one?

I have the E2240V. 1920x1080 is the native/recommended resolution, so yeah.

Ignore most of the marketing too, go here if you wanna know why http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ :)
So, this monitor Acer S211HLbd 21.5'' 5ms LED-Backlight LCD Monitor Slim Design is good, right? Also, would this be sufficient? Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply. Finally, is this video card good? MSI N460GTX Hawk GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Post a link to the monitor, everything else is good though :) Maybe consider an XFX 550w or 650w

You do not have to get an aftermarket cpu fan, unless you plan on overclocking. Do not get the thermal compound you have listed, unless you plan on buying an aftermarket cpu fan. The cpu fan that comes with the processor should have thermal compound already pre-applied that should work just fine.

Alright, I just hope my CPU doesn't explode or anything. :P

You'll be fine, I just wouldn't recommend overclocking. If you want to OC then get an aftermarket cpu fan.

ive just finished my first build. a very little amount over a grand just for the box, no peripherals. specs in sig belo. i'm told that it can max Crysis 2 and if it can't, then itll get damn close.

hey e31, it dont make sence to me that you are getting an nvidia gpu, but a amd crossfire motherboard? if you want to run nvidia gpu with amd cpu then you should consider the 980 chipset from either msi or asus, since it allows amd cpu and sli for nvidia in case you want to add another gtx 460 in the future. or you can just get an amd gpu and keep the current board you selected, and crossfire later.

I have never heard whether rosewill is a good psu maker or not. On these forums everyone always tells me to buy xfx, corsair, antec, or silverstone since they tend to be more reliable. Maybe someone has had more experience with Rosewill that could inform you whether it is good or not.

It has 50a on a 12v rail which isn't bad. It isn't modular though, which means tougher cable management.

Ok, thanks, I'm new with all of this so I had no idea.

Could you recommend me a psu that would be good for my build, that would fit into a Rosewill Challenger case? (atx mid tower) Also, what OS should I get that would be good for gaming?

This is a good power supply, but if you are looking to invest a little more money I would recommend a 650w xfx black edition psu or a 750w xfx black edition psu, or the Corsair 650w HX series PSU.

As for the OS, it won't effect gaming as much as convenience. I recommend an OEM system builder version of windows 7. You can get home, premium, professional, or ultimate. It just depends on how much money you are willing to spend and if the better windows 7 packages are worth it.
