every application opens to "open with"

So my sister's laptop is acting very strange. EVERY software application will go straight to opens with, including Internet Explorer. I even went to the file location and it does the same.

I found some similar problem threads from google that say to go to regedit, but I get a "could not be found" error.

Any ideas? thanks
 
never heard of that problem before. I have had to associate the program a few times but not every one. which one did you use. i thought maybe taking back to another date might solve it.

Not to answer for him, but this has happened to me before, its from a virus and it disassociates all exes, so you have to do something with the registry and a system setting to fix it. Forgot the steps but thats whats going on.
 
According to the OP's last post, the issue has been resolved, but I highly doubt the system is infection free.
 
we ran an anti virus software through it to eliminate whatever threats it could find. Though I cant really say if its 100% risk free. Everything seems to go fine though

edit: oh and exefix is what I used to fix everything. only took about 5 seconds hehe
