Setting up a new HDD

so i installed a new Internal HDD. Im in disk management trying to be able to use the new hdd as a backup. My dad's buddy wrote down for me what to do. But i get stuck on a step where i got 4 options.. and my Dad's buddy needs to see it to do it.
I right click on Disk 1 and it comes up with
New Spanned Volume
New Striped Volume
Convert to Dynamic Disc
Convert to GPT disc

IM not sure which one of these to choose :)
im sure a lot of people will think im stupid... but thanks for takin the time to read :)
 
What do you mean by backup? There are many ways to backup. You probably want spanned volume but there will be no fault tolerance like there is running raid 1. So can you better explain what type of backup you are talking about.
 
umm.. im not sure what other types of backup are there... besides backing up the main hdd... just copy everything i save on my main hdd.. onto my other hdd

If you want to just do a simple copy/paste, then you want to just create a new dynamic volume.
