memory; fading?

Hi all.

i've been having the same persistent problem with my laptop. It always hangs at the wrong time and when i open multiple tabs, it somehow hangs awhile later and i often lose my unsaved work.

Im current using the Asus A8JC series. I bought it around 4-5 years ago.

The specs are as follows.
Intel Core Duo 1.73 T2250
1gb RAM
100gb HDD
Geforce Go 7300

I've been running on Windows XP all this while.

What can i do to solve the problems I mentioned above?
Is it worth the money and the trouble?
Or should I just get a new laptop?

Thank you.

What kind of maintenance have you done on it? Do the following if you haven't already.

Malware scan using malwarebytes
Run Ccleaner
Run risk defrag software
Run hard drive diagnostic on the hdd

Sometimes only a fresh install of windows will fix issues like this.

hi Sir. thank you for the speedy reply.

No, i have not done any of the above that you mentioned.

I will attempt to perform those tasks and will get back to you on the status accordingly.

Should I continue using XP or use Windows 7 instead?

another problem that I have is that my USBs don't necessarily read gadjets such as my Ipod, external hard drive and other devices.

I have to use CopyTrans Central to arrange my files and folder within the iPod.

any advice on this?

Thanks in advance!

If you are having usb detection issues, then it could be a bad motherboard. I just got done working on one where it would only detect devices if usb 2.0 wasn't enabled in the bios. Once I reenabled 2.0 it stopped detecting devices again.

You can't, you need 100 posts in order to PM anyone. Sorry. I can answer any questions here on the forum.

Hi. no need to apologise. Sorry is a big word. I think its time for a new laptop for me. im on Comet's website. I like this site cos they have this host of selection choices on the left. http://www.comet.co.uk/c/Laptops/Laptops/1954#pagination_top
My budget is 500 pounds which is inclusive of the protection plan.

Im a uni student, will open many tabs at once for uni work, want something durable.

Which of the following should I choose?
1) hard drive ? (i was told the amount here may conflict with memory)
2) memory ? (i was told the amount here may also conflict hard drive)
3) processor?

if you can advise me, then I can narrow down the possible options.

Thank you.

The hard drive won't conflict with the memory or vice versa, not sure where you got that from. You pick what you want and thats it.
