How to make pdf

I would like to know what software is used to turn a document into pdf format? Also is it possible to make a pdf doc?

You could always use Adobe Acrobat ($$) but OpenOffice and LibreOffice both have the ability to create PDF files and they are both free.

You did not mention what version of Office you have loaded. Below is the link for "Save as pdf or xps". Free download for Office 2007 and I imagine there is a version available for Office 2010 as well.

If you're using Office 2007 or Office 2010, you already have the capability to Save As PDF. No need to download an add-on.

If you're using an older version of Office, installing a PDF converter will allow "printing" any file to a PDF document. An example is CutePDF.

"Printing" it to PDF will convert it.

To further clarify, "printing" to PDF will convert it to a PDF file saved on your local machine. After that you can email the file or do whatever else you'd like with it. The converter will appear as one of your installed printers. You print the document, but select the converter as your printer instead of your physical printer.
