Dual Boot

My motherboard has six (6) SATA 2 connections. I plan to use two (2) hard drives, one for Windows XP & one for Lenux Mint. I note that the AHCI mode is not available fo XP, with two HDD'S how can I keep RAID out of the picture and allow the HDD,S to have the seperate OS'S & duel boot?

I'm having trouble understanding what AHCI has to do with dual-booting.

Install Win XP on one drive, install Mint on the other.

If you install Mint second, it will automatically list XP in its boot menu.

This has nothing to do with "Duel boot" ! I am trying to stay away from "RAID" and allow the the HDD'D to be used for the specified OS'S.

What he's saying is that you don't have to run achi mode or raid to use the dual boot function. Simply use ide mode and it will work like you want it to

Okay, then why did you use a subject line 'dual boot'?

Why do you require AHCI drivers at all? You should be able to turn off RAID in your BIOS and use the drives like normal, you just won't be able to hot-swap or whatever.

No need to be snippy.

You don't need to change anything.
Install Xp to one HDD
Install Linux Mint to the other. Grub will be installed to the same hard drive.
When you reboot, Xp will be in the Grub menu.
If not, open a terminal in mint and type
Code:
sudo grub-update
That's all there is to it.
