Reduces clock with cool and quiet disabled ( Phenom 955 )

Hi, I have a strange problem with my Phenom 955. It's turned up to 3.8 GHz with a voltage set to 1.392. Well, everything was good, it passes the prime95 ( 20 minutes) Except that during the test, just in prime95 from time to time it slows to 800MHz CPU and changes the voltage at 1,120, remained somewhere just a few seconds. From what I associate it works so Cool And Quiet. I turned off this feature in bios :/
On Windows, I do not have any software manufacturer, which he did such a thing.
C1E option is disabled too, and power management in Windows is set to high performance.
The temperature in stress is around 59-60 degrees
I have the latest bios.
Motherboard - Asus M4A785TD-V
Anyone had this problem? How do I prevent cpu from reducing clocks?

You double checked that Cool N' Quiet is actually disabled in the BIOS?
 
If it really bothers you, go into windows power plan settings and set minimum CPU speed to 100%.

If your overclock is stable, Cool'n'Quiet won't cause to become unstable. 20 minutes of Prime is not a long enough test for stability. You will want to run it for 12 hours or longer. This will also test your cooling capacity. I would also recommend 20 runs of IntelBurnTest on maximum stress. If you need to monitor temperatures, use HWMonitor.
 
I didn't have option called minimum cpu speed :|
It would not bother me but i have few seconds FPS drops in games. It's really annoying.
Now i changed to 3700mhz and 1.375 and it's rather good. I'm doing prime95 test for an hour and i didnt have voltage and clock drop. ( 58*C).
Maybe 60-63*C is too high and processor is looking for escape? :D

You're right actually, 61C is the maximum temp for Phenom II's. If it goes over that it will start thermal throttling. Unless you've disabled that, that's what it's been doing.

I would suggest upgrading your cooler if you are using the stock one, or taking the voltage further down if possible. In the BIOS, set LLC from Auto to 1/2 if you have that option. You will need to raise your voltage compared to using LLC, but your temps will be lower due to the way LLC (Load Line Calibration) works.
 
I have it in percents. Set to 50%, yes?
Now i have 10% and this is the computer history through 10 hours prime95:

Look at voltage - max 1.50. I have set 1.38 in bios (manual).
I'm using Fortis HE 1225, it's not bad cooling but now is really hot :/
LLC would help?

Your core temps are showing zero. Go and disable ACC (Active Core Control) in the BIOS, then post another screenshot. Phenoms have no extra cores to unlock so there's zero sense in using ACC.
 
Ok, I turned it off , thanks.
When i change my LLC to 50% i have crash after 10 second prime95 and my voltage drop to 1.28 -_^a
I switched it back to 20%.

You'll need higher voltage for that overclock. Try 1.35v and go up or down if it's unstable or not.

For my 3.62Ghz overclock, I've got the voltage set to 1.475v, which equates to 1.44v under load which is stable. With LLC on, it wouldn't be stable at that voltage and would spike to 1.52v which skyrocketed temps. At 50% it doesn't.

I heard about people who OC'ed this phenom to 3600-3700 with stock voltage.
I have set 3.8, it's little more than stock. I'ts LLC needed for me?
 
I don't know. LLC is meant to be used for excess vdroop, but if there's none there, it's pointless.

12 hours is excessive to say the least. An hour or two, maybe, but if it doesn't fail after that, it is pretty damn likely that it is stable.

I would inch it up until stable rather than set it high then drop it. 1.35 isn't dangerous voltage for your AMD chips, however for the sake of good practice, I wouldn't do it

Every chip will clock differently. I had hopes of getting mine to 4.0 but that kinda died after I had to use 1.47v to get 3.8 stable.

I agree with Aastii. Bump the voltage a bit at a time checking for stability each time that you bump.

Just so you know the max safe voltage for the 955 is 1.50v (some say 1.55v). But I would not go near there until you have your temps under control.

I did the prime95 test at night for 9 hours.
Clock - 3700 MHz
Voltage - 1.37500
Loadline Calibration - 22.575%

0 problems , no downlocking to 800MHz, it's rather good :D
Max CPU temp - 59C.

Btw, I ordered a new 120mm fan and I will mount him to the front of case , now i have one on back.
Maybe this will help me to reduce a little my high temps and then i will overclock better :D
 
Never heard of that but it looks like a good cooler. Maybe you should try re-applying thermal paste. You need isopropyl alcohol to wipe away the old stuff on the cpu and heatsink, and some good thermal paste. I use Arctic Silver 5. Though if you have the money, a new cooler like the Thermalright Silver Arrow would be good, you just have to have standard height RAM with that cooler.

I installed my new Scythe Slip Stream 1900rpm on back*of computer case and I'm really happy :P, on front I have Cooler Master 1200rpm
My temps goes down. Now my CPU has only 55C at prime95 test ( 2 hours ) and my graphic card only 70C ( later 80C ). Motherboard is colder too ( 42C, later almost 52C o_O ). Now I have no problems with downlocking. It must have been the blame for high temperature ;]
 
Glad you got it all sorted, it's amazing what a bit of good airflow can do. Which case are you using? That can have a big effect on cooling.
