Bios Update Froze Now Black Screen

Ok, so I bought a new battery for my Sony Vaio laptop and it came with a disk to update my bios. So I started to run it but then my computer froze so I just thought no big deal and powered down. But when I tried to restart my computer, I get nothing but a black screen! Please someone help me fix this.

It's toast. You shouldn't update your BIOS unless it is absolutely necessary. And when you do, you ABSOLUTELY should not power it down.

So basically now your laptop is a large expensive paperweight.

This is truly a disaster. I didn't even realize I was flashing the bios until after it froze. The battery just came with a disk and I popped it in and clicked on it to unzip and it froze. I thought it was a simple driver or something that needed to be installed.

Why would a battery need a driver?
 
How old is your computer? Are you still under a warranty?

Yeah Ive never heard of flashing your bios for a new battery..
 
Yea I don't know why a battery would require a driver or a bios flash but everything else I buy comes with a CD so I just install it. It said rather large on the CD "Do not use battery until you install this!"

i have bios flashed just about every pc i get my hands on, i think its a great free way to update your sytem, best tips are never get the bios update form anywhere other the the manufacturers site and read there own specific instructions carefully and download any software they recommend.

the only way you could repair your laptop is to have a new bios chip or whole new motherboard fitted
 
Can you send it in for an rma? Sounds like you haven't had it that long, you might be able to exchange if you don't wait much longer.

Both are not true. However as you did nothing wrong its probably better to take it to Sony. There is however a crisis recovery method for most bios which put critical bios and other required software to recover from this state.

Please OP, specify exactly what sony vaio you have and we can try and sort it out. You will need a working computer and a usb thumb drive to sort this out. Its probably a phoenix bios, more info here: http://www.bios-mods.com/phoenixrecovery.html
