Need help with intel Q6600

Hi, today I bought a Q6600 Quad Core 2.4Ghz CPU to replace my Dual Core 1.8Ghz. I have put the q6600 in and now the CPU fan is constantly even when idle, and gives worse performence then my old dual core. Also when I run games like Call of Duty 4 an error comes up saying that my memory is too low, which never happened when I used my dual core. Please Help!
 
You may need to do an BIOS update on your motherboard. What is your motherboard make and model?

You may also need to re-install your Windows operating system.
 
Assuming you just swapped out the CPU (no other components changed), you shouldn't need to do anything to your Windows installation. My guess would be outdated BIOS as well.

Did you check that your motherboard is actually compatible with the Q6600?

Not true. When I swapped out my e8400 for a q9450, I had terrible performance and noticed two of the 4 cores weren't recognized in task manager. I had to go to add/remove hardware and uninstall each core. Restart, and have windows re-install all 4 cores properly. I was set from there on out.

This of course, was after I also did a bios update. So do that first. :)
 
I also had to reinstall my Windows when I upgraded my processor from a dual-core to a quad-core. The Windows XP operating system would not recognize all four cores until I did a clean re-installation.
 
Im running windows 7 with a pts73 that does support quadcore, the task manger recognises all 4 cores, so I guess i'll try updating my BIOS
any Ideas on how to update bios on a Pheonix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG?

Either need the model number of the motherboard being used if its a custom built pc or make and model of computer if its store bought.

I had the same issue but I ended up having to reinstall windows. Though that was going from an E6300 Wolfdale to my old Athlon.
