my specs way exceed the recommended, so... does anyone know what could be up?

just this game on this mission. on the first 2 missions, i was getting on average about 70FPS with settings on Max. I set them back to min because of the drop in FPS.

Checked temps and they are running a steady 59*c on GPU and 57*c on CPU.
Mission 4+5 are running at an average of 12 FPS, but retried 1+2 and they ran at 120 FPS on low, 73 or so on max.

only quick fix would be to drop the fps alot and you'll be good, just pixilated, but it'll be playable, and if you aren't plug it in and put on performance instead of power.

ok, what your trying to say is drop the resolution. And thats on a 3-4 FPS gain. It really doesnt help at these sub HD resolutions.
Its always plugged in and on High Performance mode.

Im more interested in finding out why some missions are so low yet some of them are so high.

Is the game legal or not? It sounds like a ripped game problem, my friends have experienced this before. If not I don't know what to tell yah, except for that sometimes GPU's have a tendency to run better maxed 100% than lower. Which is extremely strange.

the game is legal. It was bought from the $5 bin at walmart (dual set with the original COJ).

Might it be a good idea to try to update the driver to the 275.33 Verde from nvidia?

sorry, yeah res., and dropping res helps alot, but may be cuz i'm on the crappiest integrated out at the moment from the past 5 years, my 9600se on another computer is better minus a couple features like newer shader and dx.

If it is only happening on one mission then I do not think the hardware is at fault,
And you are getting problems playing only that mission on that particular game and no other game or mission,so try doing a re-install of the game.
That is the only solution I can think of.

Ensure you laptop is plugged in to the power too.

Never confident with laptop gaming....

That GPU only has 128bit memory bandwidth and GDDR2, so bit rubbish.

Actually, its Gddr3.

The NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M is a fast middle class graphics card for laptops. It is based on the same chip as the GeForce GT 435M but with slightly higher clock speeds. Furthermore, it now supports GDDR5 and 900MHz DDR3 graphics memory. However, GDDR5 wont be used because of the higher price and power consumption.

I have reinstalled the game (saved the saved game folder though) and gotten a general increase in FPS (~20 in Mission 3 on high, ~65-70 on the others). The CPU usage is hovering at around 65%, GPU at between 35 and 60%, temps at around 73 GPU, 69 CPU. It has shut down twice so far, but im pretty sure thats a temp problem now.
