Hi, my brother is giving me is computer. Its a couple years old. He says the only thing wrong is the mother board needs to be replaced, it went out so he stopped using it. The computer wont even turn on.

He was using a p5n-t deluxe mother board by ASUS.

His cpu is a Q6700 quad core 2.66GHz and he is running DDR 2 ram(800 he thinks).

He was running windows vista 64 bit, I'm going to be using a SATA drive from my old pc and probably be running vista 32 i think it was.

That's all I really know, I'm not worried about power, I just want to get this thing running. Can anyone recommend any boards for me. Cheaper is better! Any help is appreciated, Thanks:o

He's from the USA.

However, You won't be able to use your hard drive with an existing operating system on it, it won't boot up. You will have to reinstall windows.

The 775 slot is dead now, very few new motherboards to choose from. I see mainly micro atx boards and only a couple atx boards.

Is it really worth getting this machine running again? You may be able to find a motherboard on ebay perhaps that will work with that setup.

Does the power supply turn on? Does it's fan spin up?

No it does not. NOTHING happens atall. Weve tried everything that would have to do with the power and cannot find anything. Even checked the button in the front to see if it was broken.

I would be nice to get it running but if its going to cost more then its worth then I don't see the point. Could you link me to the few that you found? Thanks for everyone's help

What about checking to see if the power supply will at least turn on?

Ill give that ago. My brother crossed the power supply from his computer he has now into the one that is not running and it still did not start up. That's how he determined it was the mother board. Tried a lot of stuff before assuming the board was dead.

Thanks alot StrangleHold very helpful. Just what I needed!

Just make sure you pick a DDR2 board. Since you have DDR2 memory.

Yeah, I checked into all those brands you posted. There a few that look like they are what i need for a reasonable price 50-90 that seem to fit. ddr2 800 support and core 2 quad. Only thing Im having a hard time doing is finding out if they support the Q6700. I go onto thier website but they dont really have the ones i see on New Egg there, probably since they are older. I just want to be sure before I get one.

Other then this im good to go. My brother built his comp so he can swap the board out for me fairly easy, and I have a copy of windows to install after I make the change.
