MVI codec for win xp pro?

Greetings all.......

**win xp pro, windows media player 9 or 11 (either), 3.2ghx, 300_ gb hd, 2gb ram**

ok, here is the situation; friend of mine has the above and has a video device that records in an "MVI" format.....it plays (video - audio not recorded by default) on my computer but not his.....even with wmp being allowed to automatically download codec from the net, it finds none.....

.....he was running wmp 11 but, i uninstalled it as it was not working and put in wmp 9 as to what i am using and it still would not play.....

.......1st, it is strange that my comp will play the video file as they are almost totally identical and his doesn't......so, i don't need to really make comparisons between his comp and mine but, where can i download the codec for HIS computer w/out installing other "players" as mine uses none?....i have looked for better than an hour and find crapola.....ANY ideas for the CODEC DOWNLOAD?........THANKS AGAIN!

You could always install the K-lite Codec Pack. It comes with Media Player Classic, but you can select not to install it.

.....thanks for the reply....one question that you didn't remit was if this "pack" has the appropriate codec to display mvi video........also, IF installed, what will this do with the currently installed windows media player (-11)?...
.....over-write?...a separate player which we/I/he doesn't want?...what?
 
I can't say if it'll play it or not, but both the Codec pack and Media Player Classic (separate player) can play a lot of different file types, which is why I recommended it.

It won't overwrite anything. Media Player Classic is its own separate program, and the codecs just integrate into a database for other media players to access and decode the videos.

*NO REAL PROBLEM WITH THIS SECTION

and Media Player Classic (separate player)
*PROBLEM WITH THIS SECTION AS I STATED IN MY ORIGINAL POST THAT I DID NOT WANT A SEPARATE PLAYER.

I said in MY original post that you don't have to install Media Player Classic. You can install just the codec pack. You asked for suggestions and I'm giving them to you. It doesn't hurt to try.
 
I agree with trying out that codec pack, it's what i use and i've never not been able to play anything. Like it was said, during the install, simply uncheck installing the player and you'll get just the codecs.
