hey, could someone tell my how to set up my pc to my tv, my tv has a pc channel built in and im wondering how to connect the pair? please help, thanks!

look on the backs of both and find the plug-in that looks the exact same, then find a cable that will fit it, after making sure the pc 1 is an output and the tv's is an in-put that is, then change inputs to the pc channel and done.

im going to guess with an HDMI cable

i have 1 with a vga input, got it for christmas, i think it's more common on small lcd's and such, mine's on a 22" dynex

well that's the tv in my room, and i'm 15, the main tv i watch is 65" Mitsubishi HDTV hoocked to a comcast DVR with all the hd movie channels and package, plus it's hoocked to 2 large sony's and some other little treble box ontop of it, the only prob it it's several years old b4 lcd's were this cheap, so it was 2k and is a several foot thick inner-projector, in other words, really thick cuz it has a projestor bouncing off a mirror onto the screen, and for our xbox 360 we have a 42" lacd HDTV. and btw that tv is basically only used as a monitor, the 22" one.

You guys don't really need to try and one up each other. We know that not everyone can have what they want and must work with what they have. Up until 2 weeks ago, my fastest computer wouldn't download a 2GB game in like 5 hours or less. My current computer, that I was finally able to work up the money and build, did a 12GB game in like 1 hour. I'm not bragging, I'm just saying that for 17, almost 18 years of my life, I know how jonny feels and it's tough, and I see his need to defend himself and try to one up. But we are all friends here, mostly anyway.

Just my thoughts. @OP sorry if I cluttered up your thread.

I'm just going to add that VGA on a lcd or plasma is pretty much standard now. Where I work, I don't think we sell a TV that doesn't have VGA. A lot have DVI now as well. I will recommend VGA over HDMI if you have it.

Agreed, every tv i've seen lately has VGA. I don't see why you would recommend VGA over HDMI though? Assuming both devices have HDMI ports it would provide OP with better video quality and the ability to send sound to the tv as well, whereas VGA will only send video, and the highest res i've seen on VGA cables is something like 800x600

Download speed has nothing to do with a fast computer. I have a ten year old dell with speeds of around 600 kb/s. Same as my desktop.

VGA can handle as high a resolution as you need it too as long as the monitor and the graphics card can. You are thinking of the old vga standard. The have come out with several new standards like UVGA, XVGA, SVGA, etc. When they are marketed though, they are just commonly called VGA. I will say if dvi is an option you should use that, but other wise I recommend vga over hdmi because that's what it's designed for. TV run at a much lower resolution than monitors, you can have a 21.5 inch monitor running at 1080p, but unless you pay out the ass you won't get that resolution on a tv til you get 37" +. Also with VGA you have the option to auto correct your screen so that the edges of the desktop are at the edge of the screen and also set to the best resolution for the screen. HDMI does neither of those. HDMI is also designed to run at 1280x720 or 1980x1080. If you set the res to anything besides that you'll get some very low quality picture.

Until you get into really large screens, you really won't notice the difference of vga or hdmi. Though if dvi is an option that's still the best choice.

Oh well that wasn't my only problem with my computers. They were all around slow computers in every aspect, not just download speed. That was just my example to get them to stop one upping each other.

And as for the VGA and DVI ports in TVs now. I had no idea they made them pretty much standard on them now. That is really good to know.

hey, if i get this
- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Premium-HDM...I6FC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1312746986&sr=8-1

would i plug the hdmi end into the the pc or tv, also would this also give me audio?

Just so you know, if I were you, I wouldn't plug my computer into my TV. You could burn things on your computer onto the TV screen(such as the task bar). Now if you never plan on using that TV for anything else except your computer, then it wouldn't really matter, but I'm just letting you know. If I am wrong on this, someone please correct me.

You are right, ive plugged my laptop to my tv many times but usually for movies. if i walk out of the room for 10 min come back the screen is blank and a faint image of my desktop folders remained. it faded away after a while but its still not cool knowing u can ruin a perfectly good tv in a matter of minutes

Yeah that's what I thought. I'm pretty sure it is due to the high resolution that computers have compared to a projector in a TV. Monitors are built to withstand that high resolution without getting burnt.

i'm pretty sure the res doesn't affect it getting burnt in, and i think it depends on the tv, cuz i've left my lcd tv on the desktop for hours on end b4 and no burning, but played gts:sa on 360 on our other lcd for a little while and ended up with the health and other bars burnt in, took like a month to go away, i think it might be more the lighter colors and darker ones that affect the burn.
