PC Won't Boot

I am fixing up a couple of computers for a friend. They both seem to have the same problem. I push the power button and it turns on. I can hear the fans turning. But I don't get any display. The monitor stays on standby and the computer keeps running. I can hold the power button and the computer shuts down in 7 seconds(so it is booting past the BIOS, but I just can't see anything) Do you think they both have bad video cards? or is this something else like a hardware incompatibility?

Thanks,

Did you get the standoffs under the boards in the right places? Double check all the power connections. If the video cards have power connectors, did you plug those in?

Are you getting any post beeps from the computers as this will determine what is wrong.

This may seem like a dumb question but I have seen this happen quite a few times so bare with me.

If the MB has on board video is the monitor hooked up to the GPU or the MB?

It's a very simple thing to overlook and hook up in the wrong spot, hell I've done it once or twice over the years...

Onboard M/B bios detects monitor and should work even if you have a video card inserted.

But, if you have a dedicated card installed and you have the monitor cable attached to the onboard agp, the onboard agp gets disabled when the dedicated card is installed.

Depends on Bios settings...some do, others do not... I have came across a few as stated but must admit majority as you stated is the norm.

If I don't disable my onboard with a dedicated card installed, I don't get a display on either one.

Take out the card, use onboard video, set it to disabled, save and exit, then hold power button after it reboots. Install GPU, hook up power and monitor cables, and you should be set.
