I have P-4 2.8 GHz system with 2 GB RAM and 80 GB HDD, my problem is iam unable to install windows 7 in this computer, it first starts loading files and then the windows 7 logo appears and stops at that screen for long hours doesn't go forward, i tried changing RAM HDD and DVD drive but nothing happened, i heard that windows 7 requires more RAM, but my previous system which was only celeron 2 GHz with 512 RAM worked fine and the system was also very fast, but this P-4 computer with 2 GB RAM is unable to complete the installation, what could be the problem plz somebody help me iam going mad about this problem, my motherboard is Gravity with American Megatrend BIOS, is it compatible with windows 7

What version of windows 7? 32 bit or 64 bit? What is the exact processor you have?

i have mentioned in post that it is P4 i hope u understand what p4 is :D pentium p4;)

Yeah but p4 has a wide variety of processors. slot 478 and slot 775. I don't think any 478 processors are 64bit so you can't install 64bit windows.

Did you download and run the upgrade advisor? This will tell you if you have any hardware issues that need to be resolved before installing the OS.

frankly speaking i didn't understand windows 7 advisor, i have came to conclusion that my sata DVD drive could be the culprit, but don't have IDE drive to try:(

This sounds like a HDD driver issue:
You might have to load HDD drivers for Windows 7 on a floppy disk, and then side-load them on before installation. Most MB's ask for a function key (F1, F2) during the install of Windows for any drivers to be loaded.

You would go to the manufacturer of the HDD site, and download the drivers for the HDD. Also, you may be able to use USB driver loading if your BIOS supports it.

Do you have a sata hard drive or an IDE hard drive? Are you running in IDE mode or in ahci/raid?

after all investigation i came to a conclusion that it might be DVD drive or finally Mother board problem:(

I don't think it is a DVD drive issue. You need to figure out PC Advisor, it could be too many things: processor, graphics card...

Since it reads files off the disk and appears to hang when starting Win 7, I don't think it's a DVD drive issue.

I had a similar problem once when a friend asked me to install XP on his machine. The installation would stop at the exact same spot every time. I finally determined that it was an overheating issue because my friend had removed and replaced the cpu without replenishing the thermal grease. Apparently it would take the same amount of time each time for the cpu to reach the point where it shutdown due to overheating. I removed the cpu, cleaned old grease off cpu and heatsink, put on fresh grease and re-installed cpu. The install then completed without a hitch. It might be worth checking to see if you are hitting the same situation.
