do you have a copy of windows? probablythe most important part of a build is an os.

I have windows 7, and not sure yet i just started playing computer games again off of steam. I use to play starcraft lmao i might start playing starcraft 2 and maybe instead of buying games for xbox i will buy them for pc so newer games like the new call of duty coming out and stuff like that.

the disk or what, how exactly do you have it, if it is the oem system builders it is only useable on on motherboard, and cannot be used on another

Yea i bought it from Microsoft for my sisters computer. and also just to upgrade computers that are compatible

Update: what i meant is i just bought the windows 7 disk not for any specific computer.

Lol when i said i bought it for my sister i actually meant to say that someone else bought it for her but i gave it to her. so its not my money. and even if i have to buy another one i know to buy it off of newegg. Lets just say i dont have the os and lets start from there lol

and im not sure thats what they paid its just an example of what i have

Thats the processors right? not so good with products lol. Would u help me out and do two builds. One based around the 2500k and the 2100? or is there one in the middle that we can work with? And thanks for all the help u have given me so far.

so ended up making 1 for the 2100 but it is fine, and a 560ti which is beast, and a decent mobo, psu, ram, leaves 150 after mir's to either get a os disk and case or a beast case or a decent case and a cheaper i5 like the 2400 for 180.

u think 600 watt power supply will do with all of that? when the gpu needs 500watts, what about the other stuff? i dont know anything really about power supplies besides what it does. and thanks man looks like a great build.

the gpu is saying 500watts is the recommendation for the whole thing, it itself will only pull in the 200's or 3's, idk, but 600 is more than enough and it is recommended to have some headroom, and this combo is 20 off plus both things have 20 buck mir's, so you'll be fine with this.

and did you see the edit with the stuff about the i5 2400

yeah i seen it and i think thats a good price for i5. So could i use the same setup for the i5-2400 as i can for the i3-2100?

yep, the only diff between the 2 is the extra cores, so it will be able to do the game and the drivers better along with all your background tasks.

so should i buy another box of ram right?? since its quad?

Update: oh and how would the motherboard be compatible with the i5-2400 if the 2400 is quad and the support for the motherboard is dual? im confused now lol

Just because it has 4 slots for RAM does not mean you need them to be populated. You have 4gb in the build that jonnyp11 posted. That will be more than enough for what you are doing.

If I understand you right you are asking about the motherboard supporting a quad core and a dual core?

I motherboard has a socket. in this case it is 1155. any of the CPUs that are designed for that socket should be compatible with your motherboard. So i3, i5, i7 are compatible as long as they are socket 1155.
