Hey guys im in need of your bright minds for a little help. I need to build a computer for a family member for about $700 maybe a little more if it helps a lot. But the main use for the computer would be they play a LOT of facebook type games, minecraft. So they need a computer that would be able to run games like that with ease. So it would be a Office/Small games PC. Nothing out of this world but a real nice solid PC. They bought a computer threw a program at work 3-4 yrs ago and paid $1200 for this little cheap PC that overheats ever 5mins when playing facebook games or watching videos. So any advice on a solid PC build would be AWESOME and appreciated.

Alright well then here are some things I recommend.

Case

CPU

Mobo

GPU

RAM

PSU

Hard Drive

Optical Drive

That comes to a total of $715.44 with shipping from newegg. Some of those come with mail-in-rebates however, and that could take it down to $665.44. I know it's a little over, but I wanted to get him some good parts. You could drop the graphics card a little, but it would take down the quality of the games. You could also drop the CPU and Mobo, but any lower on a Mobo and you are getting into micro-ATX, which aren't bad, but kind of limit upgradability.

Here is a build I posted for a person a few days ago. It pretty much fits your standards. Although the graphics card may be a little high.

If you take a look at the original post, you can also get some other suggestions from other members.

That is a solid build for what you are looking for. The Vid card seems to be overkill for the type of gaming you are talking about, but they may end up liking some retail boxed games.. Never know ;)

no, that system would need 650 if you got a low quality cheap-but crappy psu, if you get a quality brand such as corsair/xfx/antec/pc p&c then a 550 is actually enough, the 6870 only wants a 500 watt min so 60 would be best and 550 is enough to be safe, the corsair builder series cx600 is what i'd say to get, the one that's linked is a good one, but way over priced for what you're getting, the corsair which is equal to that is only like 60 with a 10+ buck mir. But he doesn't have it in there, and the comp will need a os won't it, which will add another 100 to the tab.

Actually, after doing a Power Supply calculation found here: http://support.asus.com/powersupply.aspx. A 500 watt PSU seems to be too little. With that setup, the calculator is suggesting at least 650 watts.

Looking for a PSU based on that is not straight forward, they most important part is how much power you are getting on the 12v rail cause that's what powers the GPU and CPU, so depending on what PSU you look at you could get away with a 550 or if it's a very inefficient PSU then it could be 750 and still barely cut it.

Actually jonny, I would have suggested the corsair builder series one, but it was more expensive when I clicked on it to review the details. On the master list of PSUs, it was like $75, and $55 after mir. But once I clicked on it, it was like $95. Maybe it was a glitch in my computer, but otherwise I would have recommended it.

i was noticing the same thing, but i know a day or 2 ago i looked at it and it was the listed price, and i remember the retail or whatever the normal is that's the small grey number above the current price was under 80 at most.

Yeah I know, I saw it the other day too. That is really weird. Maybe their server has a little glitch or something? I wonder what it would be if you put it in a shopping cart to order?

CPU upgradable.
ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

No need to spend the extra $ on the 965.

A HD 5770 is a good card for about $100.
This one will obviously do more than the games you listed:

They figure your going to get a cheap ps, either because you don't know better, or your getting a prebuilt, or they are trying to guard against low amps,,so they inflate that in an effort to compensate.
