Hi, I was looking to purchase a graphics card but as I have very little knowledge about the subject I was looking for some help to pick out a suitable one.

Here are my PC Specs;

We would need to know what model of power supply you have and what the amps on the 12 volt rail is.

+ what your budget is and what games you intending to play (If any) :)

Moved thread to "Video Cards and Monitors". :)

Sorry for posting in the wrong section.

Where would I find this information?

Thanks.

The psu's wattage and current ratings should be written on it's casing. It will have a chart stating how man amps it can supply on the 12v rails.

Hi, is this the information needed? I could not find anything else.

I'm not really to sure on a budget at the moment.

To be honest, the main reason I want to upgrade is because HD sometimes lags on my computer. I'm not even sure if this is linked to the graphics card.

That is a very weak psu. You will have to upgrade it if you want to run a decent graphics card.

However, the HD lag that you speak of is most likely nothing to do with the GPU. More likely a software problem. I have an HTPC and it can play Blu rays fine just using the integrated graphics on the mobo.

What sort of software problem?

And what PSU would you recommend?

It doensn't lag all the time, just sometimes it has to keep stopping and buffering whereas other times it is fine.

I thought this would be worth bumping instead of creating a new topic about the same thing. I want to upgrade my PSU now however I'm not sure what I need. I have around £25 to spend, is this enough or is more needed and if so, how much?

Thanks.

All depends on the video card you have or plan on getting. Did you ever get one?

No, as I was told I need to upgrade my PSU first. I'm interested in buying both a new PSU and a graphics card but my knowledge is limited so I don't know what would even fit in my computer.

I'm not sure if you're able to tell from the picture on the first page what would be suitable? I reckon I could stretch to £40 for a PSU and £40 for a graphics card, do you have any recommendations (along with links?)

Thanks.

What computer stores are near you? You may be stretching it with your budget but we'll see.

I have a PC World, that's it pretty much. I can buy online too aslong as they are reliable and ship to the UK it's fine. What budget would you suggest as I suppose I could change it...

EDIT - Had a think and I could spare about £100 for both a graphics card and PSU, thanks.

most decent gfx cards are gonna ask for 20-40a (my gtx580 requires 42a) on the +12volt rail.
so keep that in mind.

also, what games do you plan on playing?

Nothing too major, stuff like Need For Speed, Dirt, Age of Empires.

Do you have a link to a suitable PSU and GFX Card please as I really am clueless as to what I need. I just hope I manage to fit them in :D. Thanks.
