Hi there last night I went and bought a new internal hard drive to upgrade on my PS3. Heres what I bought:

Seagate Momentus
2.5" notebook drive
500gb Sata
16mb cache
7200 rpm

So I followed instructions I found online in how to replace the hdd. Followed them precisely, installed the new hdd and now the ps3 reads: Cannont find hard drive, please insert the correct hdd. So I reinstalled the old one and it works right away.

Any idea what experiencing here? I mean it seemed like it was a piece of cake, but the new doesn't get recognized. Any help is always appreciated.

Thanks
Peace!

If possible, you'll want to try the hard drive in a computer. Upgrading a PS3 hard drive is a pretty easy and straight forward process, I think you might have gotten a defective drive.

ive never reininstalled a hard drive on a ps3.... I am not sure if you need to format the drive to fat 32 first... my guess is the ps3 should be able to do that... is this drive def compatible with the ps3.... I heard most 2.5 '' are

So I went back to best buy, exchanged the hdd, got home replaced it in the ps3. Same message keeps coming up. "Cannot read, please insert correct hdd". Why, lol?

Here's the skinny:

My girls labtop decided to stop working. It's a Dell 1520, the thing was telling me to remove and reseat the hdd. Did that, went out bought a new one same message. So I was thinking maybe the laptop just won't work anymore, ok, so I'll use the newly bought hdd for my ps3, since I need to upgrade it anyways.

Which is why am here. Both hdd's dint work in the laptop and or the ps3. What could
Be going wrong here? I mean I've replaced hdd's in pc's and laptops before.

As always, any help is greatly Appreciated!

Thanks!

Strange i have a PS3 aswell and I have always thought you could just chuck any old/new laptop hdd into it and it would work. What brand is the Hdd you bought from best buy? Maybe the PS3 only supports certain models.

Its a Seagate, info up top.

Is there anyway that maybe the laptop is short circuiting the hdd's? Gonna go an return this one again tomorrow, then try it first on the ps3. Both times I've tried them first on the laptop.

Thanks

You need to try the HDD in a computer you are certain has no issues. This is an odd problem and you can't really rule anything out yet.
