Bulldozer next week?

Within the next week or so AMD should begin shipping its FX Series processors, its first high-end chip based on an entirely new core design since the introduction of the Family 10h, better-known as Barcelona, almost exactly four years ago. At the annual Hot Chips semiconductor conference last week, AMD provided some new details on the innovative Bulldozer architecture behind both the FX Series for desktops and new Opteron server processors. Im wondering if its the 'Duke Nukem' of CPUs? Care to comment?

I hope it is not the Duke Nukem of CPUs.
So if the projected shipping date is one week from now then reviews(genuine) will be out 2-3 days after it right? or just on the day of release?

I should atleast be better than Nehalem before it can let AMD make a stand again in the CPU market.

I just started saving money up for bulldozer upgrade 2 months ago! I don't have enough money yet (I would if the wife wasn't involved ;)) :( Ahh

You do not need to go into debt to acquire computer parts. Socket AM3+ is likely going to drop in price a bit in price after the first few months it has been out.

I don't need anything more powerful than my Phenom II 945. But I am pondering on a RAM upgrade as I only have 2 gigabytes of memory.

I'm pretty sure its not suppost to be for sale retail till the second week in sept.

But like bigfella said, its premature to talk about it. Oh that is unless you have something bad to say about it, (Duke Nukem) comment.

wow, you guys know there will be benches out before it is released, i'll bet within a day of it getting into the inventory of the first store, there will be benches out, you know something like this is going to happen.

i would do a ram/mobo swap before even considering bulldozer, would help with getting more ram as ddr 2 is expensive as heck right now

Haha I love how you both are consistently fighting. So great.

This makes me so excited for my build!

Makes the world a interesting place.

Dont thave any idea how it will perform. Vs. Sandy/Ivy it might be slightly slower clock for clock, but be a multi threaded monster. Or who knows. It might be pretty good at single threads too, has alot of L2 cache.

Could be slightly slower clock for clock with less cache intensive programs, and equal or faster with more cache dependent programs. This thing with a 8 core will have 16mb. of L2/3 cache.
