Weird problem...

I was bored, so I was testing to see if setting the number of cores at boot to two on my system was really better. So I changed it from 2 to 1, because my coretemp gadget always showed 2 cores working on boot. I booted up and sure enough, only one core was being used, and it didn't even show the other one like it normally does. But then, when I went back into msconfig to change it back to 2 cores, it wouldn't give me an option for 2 cores anymore, when it did before. I tried restarting, deleting the coretemp gadget, and still, I cannot choose 2 cores on boot. Even coretemp is only showing one. Is this something I should be worried about?

When you pull up Task Manager is it showing Two-Cores that are both doing processing? Run several programs and pull up Task Manager .

There shouldn't be a problem I don't think a processor can forget that it's a dual core.

There is an option in the BIOS to use all cores or not.
I know for sure it is there for my i7

I see what you are saying but it shouldn't be a problem in Windows. Reason being Windows scans your system for new devices or changes that has been made on every startup.

Have you got the box above it checked so you can change it back?

Also press Windows+R and type in dxdiag and post how many CPUs does it show there.

I have the box checked, but when I pull down the tab, it only shows the one option for 1 core.

Dxdiag and BIOS still show its a dual core.

I unchecked the box, restarted, and now its there. Don't know if it really does effect anything, but just an update.

The msconfig option tells windows how many cores to use before you even see the logon screen. Once you're in windows it should be seeing/using all of your cores anyway.
