Ok guys and gals I am going to build a PC and this is the motherboard a buddy gave to me in a group of things I bought. I am looking for opinions on it and Which Processor would you go with. I am looking to make this more of a media machine. Playing DVD on the TV, Editing Videos, Playing Music and surfing the web.

I know this Board has two RAM slots each slot can handle up to an 8GB stick. I have a Power Supply for it already. And that is it. I need everything else. But when thinking about a Processor I get stuck a bit. What would you do?

I am also going to put a Blue Ray player in the box as this board says it can take that too. What is your opinions on this board?

Thanks everyone!

put a athlon ii 640 in it...2x4 gig ram...8 gig sticks for that would be ungodly expensive...hell the ddr2 will even be, im not sure id even bother with that board if you were going to stuff an am3 in it...id get a better board imho. asus or gigabyte with 4x ddr3 slots would be a much more economical choice

NO, You have 2 slots with a max memory of 8gb TOTAL, so you can only have 2 sticks of 4gb.

I should also add that it states in can handle AMD Phenom/Phenom II Quad Core

This board can't even handle the 955 or 965 quad core only up to the 945. I would suggest buying a different board with better cpu support. Go AM3+ that way you can upgrade to bulldozer later on.

Agree on getting a different motherboard. DDR3 memory is so cheap now. You can get 8gb for around $50

The manual says it can handle 16GB Ram total. Is that wrong?

I received this in a group of PC items I bought for $25.00. So I thought why not put it to use.

Thanks for the replies.

Ok, checked another source and it says 16gb, newegg only said 8gb for some reason. ECS says 16. However, I still wouldn't use this board.

yea i checked the ecs site...said it could support 8 gig dimms but...at a cost of 200 bucks for 16 gig...sorz ill pass on that :) grab a new board honestly...tho if you want to spend like a few bucks and put together a nice surfer/mild gamer? sure go for like 4 gigs or 8 maybe at the most...and stuff a athlon ii in it

Sweet thanks for all the replies. Like said this is something I got with a group of items I bought. also have a liquid Cool unit in the box too. When I seen it all I was like shoot if it is not to much and it would turn out to be an good machine why not start with it lol.

I am looking to build a machine to do video editing also. Nothing to major but still would like to have some power behind it. anyone have a suggestion for a board to start with?
