Im trying to get a computer up and running in time for SWTOR. I want it to last me a while because im going to be putting quite a bit of money into it. I was just curious of how much RAM I should put in it. I know that more is better, but there is a matter of cost. I have my sight set on 24 gbs, but should I maybe look more towards a little less? (i.e. 18,16, etc.)
 
It will only get cheaper with time. Get 8 gigs. If you feel yourself needing more, which you almost 100% sure won't, then buy it. But no point wasting money on it if it's not being used.

PS: Check out Guild Wars 2 if you're going to play SWKOTOR. :)
 
really almost no games even rec more than 4gb's, 8gb's is truly just prefrence and slight overkill, but it is helpfull and a nice thing to have, why not post your build so we can see what you plan to do and maybe critique it and help you out there too.

I would never recommend getting 16GB for a gaming build. When they start making games that need more than 8, then you'll have to upgrade your whole system, so its pointless.
 
also, no sandy-bridge board has more than 4 slots, and 8gb ram sticks are extremely rare, and the only one on newegg costs 300 for a single corsair 8gb ddr3 1600mhz stick, so there is no point in even considering ovr 16gb's which almost 0 people that have even use
 
Im only using the new computer for gaming. So, now that I know how much ram to get, should I get a 3.2 ghz or a 3.46 ghz processor?
 
Always go for a higher clock speed. If it's a matter of a dual 3.46 vs a quad 3.2 then get the quad because there isn't a whole lot of difference and newer games will benefit from a quad core.
