I'm planning to get an mx17 3d ready for myself and work.

but the cost of upgrading the ram to 16 gb is ridiculous. its $400

does anyone know what ram is compatible with the mx17 that i can upgrade myself?

2 things:

1 - Don't waster your money chasing 16gb. You'll never use it all

2 - It's ddr3 1333 (pc 10600)

ic ic, but my boss uses 8gb on his 17'' mac book pro and it kinda lags.

we're planning to do 3d demos and other 3d applications, and doing demos through online as well

but the ddr3 on the dell site it offers me 1600mhz not 1333 mhz

thanks for your reply, and sorry if I'm a noob.

?? It's not a mac. The m17x r3 is the model of the laptop. You can get it in any sort of configuration. The RAM it comes with is the ddr3 1333. You can look it up on the dell site.

I was asking the specs on the mac his boss was using when experiencing the lag.

My apologies, I didn't realize he posted again.

His mac isn't going to lag because he doesn't have enough ram. it is probably his video card. The highest video I've seen macbooks come with is an HD6770. That will have a hard time handling 3d. An alienware with an nvidia card (especially the 3d versions) are made to run 3d so you won't have any issues.

And about the ram, you can use that too. The alien ware i use is ddr3 1333, maybe they've upgraded the ram they use.

Edit: Yes, they are putting ddr3 1600 in them now. You can easily go to newegg or whatever computer part site you want to and buy some RAM. The chips on the dell website are very overpriced. I would recommend just outright replacing the ones in the laptop for maximum compatibility. (i'll buy your old ones off of you)
