Overclocking RAM

Hey everyone.

Well, I have never overclocked before, but I want to overclock my crappy RAM. Its DDR3 1066 but on the Crucial website, it says it can be overclocked to 1333. My motherboard also has memory speed of 1066, but that too says it can be overclocked to 1333. So my question, can I overclock this RAM without it overheating and/or braking my computer?

Thanks

Well if it is a module that is rated at 1333 you should be able to bump it up. I would not push the voltages much if at all. Not having heat spreaders makes me a bit nervous to over volt them

That is not a stupid question at all.

Go into the BIOS and there should be an option or RAM Frequencies. (Probably under advanced options) If your board is like mine you will just need to take the speed from 1066 and move it to 1333. If there are more advanced options, you may need to set a RAM multiplier to get it to the correct frequency.

Save and exit. Your computer will completely power off. Don't worry this is normal. :D it will come back on in a bit.

Wouldn't let me overclock it. The only option it had was 1067MHz. Would I also need to change something to overclock the mobo to 1333MHz?

I don't think so. I never had to change any settings when going from 1066 to 1333

Can you link me you motherboard as well?

Ok well it look like you without the option of just bumping it up to 1333 it looks like you would need to do it through the FSB. I would advise against doing that since it would also OC your cpu.

Unless I am overlooking something really obvious it looks to me that you will just have 1066 RAM. Maybe the other members that are better with intel setups can check over my work and see if I missed anything.

I don't think you missed anything out. Thanks for the help. I will just have to stick with this setup until I can afford a better one :)

Not noticeably. Unless you are running out of RAM now. The increased bandwidth of having it in dual channel will not be all that noticeable unless you are using applications that are really data heavy. The biggest benefit would be having 4gb instead of 2gb.

Well when I play games, i'm always like 100MB away from running out of memory. And I using 64bit windows
