Internet Connection

So I went to the my towns public library this morning to get some school work done. I asked the librarian on my way in if their network was password protected, she tells me no. So I go where I can find a nice quiet place to do my work.

Here's the problem, when I opened up my little internet access icon on the bottom right hand side of the screen 4 library networks come up. Some varying in signal strength, I picked the strongest one (actually tried them all). So after cycling through all of the available connections, I still cannot connect to internet. There is a small triangle on the internet bars connection.
What should I do?
What are my options?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

OS is Windows 7, its a brand new laptop, Sony VPCEG, just bought 4 a week ago.

Ill try and ask the another librarian tomorrow, the lady I asked might not have had a clue as to what I was even referring too.

Thanks, any other ideas ill entertain, throw 'em out there.
