What am I missing here?

Ok so here is the deal. I am not as knowledgeable on computers as I would like to be. That being said, I am getting a computer built for me with the specs below. I have already told the builder to finish it and it should be done within a couple of days.

In talking to a couple of my computer friends, they are telling me that I will not be happy with this build. All I really do is college classes and play some WOW.

Why would I not be happy with this build???

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Intel P67D mATX S1155 DDR3
Intel Core i5-2400 3.1GHz 6MB Cashe
Mid Tower Black Chassis No Power Supply
Seasonic 500 Watt 80 Plus Power Supply w/ 80mm fan
Corsair 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz Kit (2x4GB)
Seagate 1.00TB 7200RPM 32MB SATA3
LG 12X Blu-Ray Writer - SATA
EVGA GeForce GTX570 1280MB PCI-E x16
Card Reader for TM/DM/PC/MJ/MI Chassis

I do understand that this MOBO cannot be overclocked which is a oversight on my part, but will I really need it OC'd to play WOW on this system? And why would I not be happy with it?

Are your friends even qualified to tell you that? Did they give you any actual reasons? Your compute will be very fast, handle school work with ease, and blow WoW out of the water. No, I wouldn't look at overclocking, which is why we suggested the 2400 instead of the 2400k. You don't need it. There isn't much that won't be able to handle. Tell us any actual reasons they may have given you, if any at all.

you are wrong. P67 is ment to be overclocked. H67 is the non OC chipset.
You will not need an OC anytime in the near future. And the build itself looks awesome stats wise. Just check the cable management when you get it, as bad CM can kill a system with heat.

Well, one should be qualified as he builds computers himself. He mentioned that the MOBO can not be oc'd and also said that I am limiting my video card by only doing the i5 instead of the i7. He also said that the Video card was a bad choice as there were much cheaper better ones out there.... thought I did my research on it and it looked good.

As far as the overclocking, I hope I can in the future, but I was told in these forums as well that this board could not be overclocked.

unless intel has locked the FSB, then it can. P67 has ran 2500ks upward of 4.8GHz (very OCd).

The i5 will run just as fast as the i7 in gaming and such. The only real difference is in the instruction sets that it can use and HT. Neither of which you need.

The GTX570 is one of the best GPUs on the market (somewhere between a 6950 and a 580). It is fine for what you need. Even a GTX560ti would have been fine for WOW.

Well, that makes me feel better.. not sure why he would say that but sounds like I made an ok choice.

Thanks,

Here's the thing. I'm not claiming to be a super expert, but I know the hardware I work with. Anyone with half a mind can follow youtube instructions to build a pc. That doesn't mean you know anything.

This guy has obviously never ran an i5 and/or an i7. There definitely isn't a game available that will see a noticeable benefit in running the latter. Especially not WoW. Yes, you could have picked a different GPU that costs less and still max out WoW, but with the GTX 570 will last you a lot longer and ca handle a lot more intensive games.
Now I'm not trying to say bad things about your friend, cause I don't know him. But, please rest assured. You will have an awesome computer.

Thanks for the info. And alot of times "friends" get jealous.... :) But not knowing enough about building and parts...I was unsure after hearing his comments. I do know WOW is a lower end game as far as computer games are concerned, but I did want a system that I can max it out on.

Thanks again,

Exo

Is 500w enough to run a 570 though, even with that quality of a PSU? You might want a little bit of headroom on that.

Based on what I have read online, it is. But I wish I would have upgraded it. It will be my first upgrade for sure especially If I add anything else to it.

I would have got a 2500K, there is not but a 30 buck difference. Would have dropped the Intel board for a Gigabyte or Asus. And the power supply, Seasonic is a good supply but its alittle on the small side. A 650W would have been better. Memory, for the price, DDR3 1600 would have been better.

As I am attempting to learn all this stuff, what makes the 2500K better.. is it faster? More slots? Overclockable?

Wish I would have went with a larger PSU as well now..but didnt know then.

And there again, as I have learned, the Gigabyte or Asus board seems to be better, but just didnt know that when I ordered.
