Advice on entry level gaming

Hey guys/gals,

I have a buddy looking to buy a PC for his son. The boy likes to game. So it will just be entry level. Run windows 7 (here i can get for $109 OEM), case don't worry about, budget around $500.00 CDN.

If you think you can help me out on which components to pick, please give all the advice you can :) . Meanwhile i will try and pick them out myself.

Thanks,

So it is CAD$500 for component only?

Like i said, I am looking on building a computer $500CDN - This will include Monitor, keyboard and mouse combo, windows 7 ( This has been configured and equals $259.00 approx). That being said:

$500.00 Budget
- $259.00 (pre selected peripherals)
$251.00 Left over for components

Now keep in mind this is a low amount and can be adjusted accordingly. The peripherals chosen can be adjusted to allow more room for components.

This seems like impossible, but trying to get er done.

Sorry should have been more clear :)

Keep in mind this is a 12yr old boy that plays mild games. So no need to go crazy with components.

**Right now i am working on one and can't get the price to go lower than $700 :s ... Needless to say, having trouble lol ***

CAN$251...
Mission impossible.

CAN$350 is more realistic (exclude case).
I come up with $320 www.directcanada.com
AMD Athlon II X3 450
ASUS M5A78L-M LX mATX AM3+
Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB 1X4GB DDR3-1333 CL9
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATAIII
Gigabyte Radeon HD 5670 775MHZ 1GB 1.6GHZ DDR3
Corsair CX430 V2

Lol.. i know i know, it's hard!!! BUT do note that slight over the budget is acceptable. And i am working on trying to find a cheaper monitor and keyboard and mouse.

So build as if you had $500 for components.

i really think he'll get the best value from a bought one at that price for that many things, he may just need to save up a little more, the monitor really throws it off, then the other stuff too, i was going the cheapest stuff i could find and it's like inpossible, this seems like an ebay build or something

Well i was talking to the dad (my buddy). I let him know of DaisyMTC build and how hard it was to build something half decent for the price he wants. He agreed that he needs to up the budget.

What i got so far is that i can get Windows 7 for $109. A monitor for $89, as well as wireless keyboard and mouse for additional $60

The rest of the budget will be components.

So i ask this, help me build a entry level gaming PC and see if we can get a price tag of components around $500 or less.

DaisyMTC component choice looks pretty good so far. Half decent for a 12yr old

why 60 for mouse and keyboard, and with 500 for components alone, now we're talking here ya go

you can look around elsewhere for similar parts, but no other sites are as organized as newegg which makes it take much longer, then there's the combos too, can always order from both sites or something.

The 60$ is for a basic multimedia keyboard and mouse. (it's a little high, but better to go high first).

Key thing is to remember this kid is 12yrs old. He only plays basic games. Even if he wanted to play COD or something, he doesn't need to play them in high graphics.

this won't play cod on high, that's a low/entry level gfx card, the cpu is a little overkill but comboed with the psu it should be more worth it, and will allow overclocking. the case is an awsome looking and good performing one. hdd was 1tb since 500 is like 40 and 1tb is 60, gives best value without total overkill, and it will last him forever before he runs out if he ever does. mobo is good quality and he can upgrade in a few years to a zambezi or anything else out that is supported by the am3+ socket. then some cheapy ram. and all for 510, but with 3 mir totaling 35 you will get at least one which makes up for that.

Looks good, but is 600W really nessesary? seems a little much.

EDIT: Really for the price with processor, why not right lol.... just realized that.

An XFX 450w will be enough for a low-end GPU and system. As well as anything up to a GTX 460/560 or 5770/6870.

What monitor/peripherals are you getting him? Do you have a case already? And windows?

I'll a build with all of the above and try to keep it as cheap as possible.

The XFX parts have a $20 USB rebate on each of them. That is a cheap but capable gaming system with everything, except a set of speakers or headphones.
