I spent awhile looking for a used laptop.And I got this one:D!
Acer aspire 5551-2036:
15.6"LED/LCD
Amd antholon x2 p320 (2.1ghz)
ATI HD 4250 GPU
3GB DDR3
320GB HDD(I think it was replaced with a 280 though)
As you can tell the screen is toast. And its missing 14 keys(still have cups).
Besides that,it works flawlessly!
$135 total($50 for the laptop+$70 for screen+$15 for keyboard) & it will be good as new.Battery still holds a good charge.Even got power adapter for it.

I don't know about US, but that is a good deal.
And also broken screens lower the resale value a lot but it does not cost a lot to get a new screen and replace it your self.
Even I look for used phones with a broken screen or something so I can get it and replace it myself.
Good Going Cracker :D

Most I looked at on ebay would have a gb or less ram.Was lucky to see any under $80 by the time they would end, even 2003 models that had bad gpus,no HDD,half keyboard missing & no OS.Some screens are a bit pricey for certain models,$250.But yeah, most are fairly cheap if you look around on the net.The guy who sold it to me was desperate & didn't want to mess with it lol.He bought it new last year around fall.I did have to drive 1.5hrs to get it,but I didn't mind.
Yeah I replaced a alot of screens for friend's cells.I would look around to find the screen. They would buy the screen & give me $30 to install it for them.
I always say, just get me a 40 or a bk triple stacker & ill be happy lol.But they give me the 30 anyway.

I'd say you got a good deal :)

No such thing as a 280gb drive, most likely there's a hidden partition for recovery using up the missing space.
recovery is 15Gb. and about 12.5% is taken py partitioning under NTFS, which would leave right at 280.

Those lappys are pretty good. I have a 5552 (more ram, less HDD) with same processor and GPU and use it every day. Just dont expect any gaming on it (wont run BC2, MOH (13FPS), 18WOSALH (25FPS max, 8 min).

Welcome to the marketing schemes of hard drives. They measure a gb as 1000 mb, mb as 1000kb, and kb as 1000 bytes, when it's really 1024 ;)

Find a compatible LCD and replace it. Done it before myself and it's not too difficult if you've taken apart a laptop before :)

EDIT: I see you got a replacement screen. Go for it!

Thanks for all the replies.I figured their was a backup/recovery in it.It just doesn't show it under my computer, where you see all the drives.I pulled the HDD out and it said 320gb.I was just looking for a laptop, nothing very particular.Except one was that is more up to date with hardware & had or could handle at least 2gb ram. This is the most up to date pc I have now.Rest I have are from 2001-2007,low end types.
Im keeping it.Will probably get 8gb ram for it after I get a screen & keyboard.I have fully stripped down 5 different laptops more then one each, not fun lol.Found the full pdf manual for it,almost 300 pages worth:)
