HELP! Newly built PC Doesn't Work

I recently built a new computer with parts I bought off of Newegg. It has a Foxconn A88GMV with a 3.2GHz quad-core AMD Sempron II CPU.

The problem is that after a while of the computer being on, it randomly freezes and sometimes it displays the last frame I was looking at and the picture looks like a photo from a printer that the heads aren't aligned. Sometimes I get the blue screen of death and sometimes the display just goes black and the computer restarts itself.

Do you think this is an overheating issue with the CPU or do you think it is a defective hardware issue? Thanks in advance

It does sound like a component is overheating.
1. How was the thermal paste put on the heatsink of the CPU cooler? By you or the factory?
2. What is the ventilation like in the computer?
3. Can you give a specific error code corresponding to the blue screen?
4. What OS are you using?

first thing i do when trouble shooting is stopping the computer from restarting automatically.

because you did not specify what os you're using i'm going to assume you have some version of windows 7 because it's the most popular at the moment for new builds.

right click on my computer and go to properties. then click on advanced system settings, in the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click on Settings...
now, at the bottom, under System failure, uncheck Automatically restart.

now when you get a blue screen you will have enough time to write down the stop codes and that will point you in the right direction.

Thanks, for all of the help. In response to some of the questions:
1.it has an onboard video card
2.the ventilation is pretty good, but the CPU fan and case fan aren't very loud
3.I am using Window 7 Home Premium
4.The thermal paste was just the original stuff that came on the CPU cooler with the PhenomII. I had trouble clamping down the lock and the cooler slipped around a lot. So, the paste got spread pretty thin. I am going to try wiping off the old paste and putting on some new and see if that solves the problem. Is there a good thermal paste that you would recommend that isn't expensive?

I put on new thermal paste and the same thing still happened. So I rigged up a fan to the onboard video card cooler and it still happened again. Below are screenshots. I have tried 7 and xp.

This screen happened when I was trying to install xp

This screen happened when I tried to install 7. I took video of this screenshot so you could see how the screen changes. To view it just click on the picture.

Hope this helps in figuring out what the issue is. Now we know it is not an overheating issue, so what hardware device is causing the issue? Motherboard with onboard video, cpu, hard drive, RAM?

The error message is likely a driver or RAM issues. RAM sounds more probably, and could explain the whole issue.
