MS Office XP Activation Error [fixed]

Ok I have MS Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers.

I have always been able to activate this software very simply online through the on-screen prompts. However now it says "unable to process your request at this time...Try the telephone option(0xb017)." When I try telephone option there is no number displayed only a blank where the number should be.

I imagine that this is due to MS no longer supporting my older version of office. But is there a way I can continue to use my software??

It says 45 uses remaining until activated. Can I delete the data.dat file and reset the counter?

Thanks as always,

me

Does it give you the option to enter another product key? If so, try re-entering in your key. Otherwise, uninstall and reinstall.

Have you selected your country? Obviously the number wont appear before this.

I have been caught out by that in the past.

Its not the "counter" on your end that needs resetting, but the one on MS's end.

It's not the phone number that doesn't appear. I think it's the other set of numbers....it's like 40-something digits long.

Okay I did an uninstall/reinstall. Same thing though :(

I attached some screen shots, thought it might help.

The first capture is after an online activation attempt.

Second capture is after I chose the telephone option.

Yeah you need to select your country in order to get a telephone number.

Doh! Okay and thanks, that seemed obvious. However it still did not reveal a phone number. FYI I did select a country for my online attempt at activation. So let's cut to the chase. My country is good ole U.S.A.

I have searched Microsoft's online help and it seems like a tangled web of dead ends. It will say click here to chat with support or click here for a phone number and all the links just end up directing me back to the start page. Office XP does not seem to be supported online. Thanks again.

Thanks!! It worked without a hitch. I am going to write that phone number in the CD sleeve now!!
