How to skip an update

For months, I have experienced freezing, then failing to boot windows, even in safe mode. I think I have discovered the problem. I think that it is "XML core services 4.0 SP2" I think this because:

1. I restored to before this update, and it worked

2: While installing this "critical update" (at shutdown), it froze, then failed to boot.

3: A GPU pull will allow the system to boot, and when I put the GPU back in it works fine for roughly one week, then it happens again.

My question is: could this update be responsible for what I am describing and how can I force windows to delete it. This update has already been downloaded automatically by windows , but I have been able to get around it by shutting down without updating through Ctrl+Alt+Delete. I don't want to keep doing that. Turning automatic updates off doesn't stop this one from being installed at shut down. How to I clear it?

If you disable automatic updates, it won't install it. Visit windows update site and deselect that update and have it not remind you again to download it and it shouldn't download when automatic updates is enabled again.

I can't get to the windows update site because it redirects to a page that says to open it from the start menu. When I uncheck them there, they keep rechecking. Also, How do I make it not remind me?

Using the windows update in the start menu, find the update, right click on it, and click "hide update"

Haven't really used XP in ages, pretty sure that's how to do it.
